How often does Shell's sort of situation with more or less complete loss of memory/identity continuity happen anyway? I gather people tend to forget most details about their lives over time, which makes sense given the massive time scales involved, but most people still maintain some kind of continuity and don't get the slate wiped clean, yeah?

Yeah, for most people forgetting their lives is a very gradual process.
Mostly when someone gets wiped out like that, it is because a torturer did it to them, either effectively at random like what happened to Shell or deliberately because of torturer politics.

I am very worried. There is a lot to be delighted about. They are the King and Queen of Narnia, and they have a beautiful and prosperous kingdom, and they are married. [...] Their lives are so great.

snrk
edit: If you would like to know where to aim your worries, may I direct you to the suicidally depressed Joker trying and failing to kill himself in a frozen wasteland somewhere?

I haven’t quite caught up with the thread and don’t know if there’s anything after that yet, but yeah. If you’re a fictional character, that is one of the most dangerous things to think.

Well, I'm also worried about the fact that at some point they will be sent back to Earth through the wardrobe and end up in ten-year-old bodies again with everything they've worked for all their lives taken away, but I suppose that'll come after the Joker thing.

Not related to the Narnia thing; but it's been on my mind for a while--what commitment issues are in place (I'm assuming it's commitment issues, anyway?) that Izzy's parents are still married and Charlie is willing to leave Forks to make Renee happy?
