Also:
"This is a unique artifact capable of counting time with precision unmatched by anything that exists in this world. That I forgot I had."
That + the facial expression is amazing.

My characters don't actually know yet that Bar can do anything other than drinks.

"No explosions or unexpected behavior of any kind. But it keeps track of what time of day it is, more precisely than any non-magical method. And it can show you which way is north, if you need that kind of thing."
This artifact and a good ship would suffice to make a very rich trans-oceanic trader.

I have not gotten to this sandbox yet, but I would be worried about the artifact being embroidered in a nonobvious way. I wouldn't want to depend on it for trans-oceanic trading.

conneticut_yankee is gonna inject 100% pure grade-A science and industry into this world, probably. They'll probably trust watches and compasses eventually.

Yeah, but it's still probably a bad idea to trust that particular one too much.

I just wish he'd come from a bit later so he would focus on cleaner energy. He's going to need to start slowly enough that wood, wind, and water could be viable power sources.

I'm not actually sure when he does come from. Ostensibly it's 1879, but the book came out ten years later and Twain gives him access to stuff from the eighties. Either way, too early to worry about clean energy.

Also, there's a typo in the most recent comment: “thring”. I assume there's a reasonable chance you'll read this before updating again.

Now I'm Imagining Conneticut Yankee type characters from other time periods. 1920. 1955. 2008.
