Re: Mandarin practice anyone?
I took a year and a half of Mandarin in college, but I've forgotten most of it and therefore can't moderate threads in the language. While I have no reason to believe this is anything other than innocuous, and I don't object to you seeking practice partners here, as a matter of general policy I would prefer to have materials posted to the board be in English (you can take conversations in other languages offsite if you find somebody). (The Russian translation thread was another case because it wasn't the poster spontaneously holding a conversation in Russian.)

Did you mean a pentagon, or are you going to use the square for something else? XD

Maybe they only want temporary Mandarin?

Works for me! And that's about the same level of Chinese I'm at, actually :) Year and a half in college, three months in Beijing, then nothing for five years. And now I'm in Beijing visiting a friend and feeling pathetic and wishing to practice more.Alicorn wrote:I took a year and a half of Mandarin in college, but I've forgotten most of it and therefore can't moderate threads in the language. For the curious / square requesting: it just says roughly "I want to practice speaking (reading) Chinese. Anyone know how to speak it and have any interest?" Since Google translate is refusing to admit of 有人 as a valid translation for "anyone" and the resulting attempt at translation makes me giggle.

"Some would say and interested?" XD
Google Translate thinks the (写) part means (writing); typo or what?

Google Translate is right. (Things I Never Thought I'd Say for $200) Though I'd be practicing both, cause one does not really get one without the other :)
