Sadly while finnish's lack of grammatical gender is awesome, it seems a bit unreasonable of me to expect my interlocutor to understand it. I like the написал/а idea, maybe i'll go with that. Or maybe I'll just drop the troublesome gendered clause :P
Update 3: I have asked the two most likely people (person I know who is attracted to me and person I know who possibly speaks Russian) and they both say they didn't write it. I am now back to being creeped out.
Russian Language - anyone fluent?
Re: Russian Language - anyone fluent?
any past tense sentences will have gender, but present tense and future tense are genderless.
yes, and finnish pronouns are harder than russian ones to decline: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/h%C3%A4n (click "show" to see the declension. it has 13*2 forms (singular and plural)
well, i hope they were just meaning to visit you instead of yearning for you

Hmm. Maybe I'll just say something like "я не была в моем офисе в течение месяца. только что я прочитала твою записку. кто ты?" and leave out the last sentence and thereby avoid gender while implying I have no idea when they may have written me.
Dangit Finnish, you are such a cool language, why must you be a near-isolate and so difficult to learn?
And yeah, I'm trying to interpret it in the most innocuous way possible so that it can remain a fun linguistic puzzle in my mind and I don't have to start worry about going by my office or something.

That looks good. I dod lots of searches for pieces of that to make sure that there were native speakers saying those phrases, and they all checked out!

Never got a response, and I moved out of that office not long after, so it remains a mystery to this day.
