Even if that were the case, there's also the issue of you being able to win with the scum as well, and therefore having no reason to ally with Town if it looks like it might be close.Yadal wrote:Drat. I didn't realise Alicorn had put that in the Town victory conditions. I assumed that if I were alive at the end of the game and the Town was we could both win, as in the real situation we simulated that would be indeed the case.HybridZizi wrote:The problem is partly that you didn't change you're victory condition, I think. Win condition for town is "You are TOWN, and win when all the scum are dead." Your win condition was "You win if you are still alive at the end of the game." You dont seem to be town, so you're scum unless there's a third faction I don't know about and I'm fairly sure there isn't. Even if you are a less harmful scum, town win condition requires you to die. We can't both win. Either all the scum are dead OR you're alive at the end. Sorry.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
To be honest, I figured that there was too much of a risk of the Scum killing me first. Even if I jumped around, there was a good chance I died. So I took a gamble.
Changed my mind on trying to fit in. Apparently I give an inch and you people try to take a mile.

According to the mafiascum wiki it's a difficult role to play. Don't feel too bad, it was your first game. I hope you're not scared off from future mafia games.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
I'm much more inclined to go mafia-hunting than kill the non-obligate-killing neutral who's trying to make friends. Of course, that's only a good idea if people don't go explicitly saying that they will inevitably kill him in the future if he doesn't jump tonight, and no one else cooperated with that, so there goes that plan, I guess.
It's frustrating, because the alternative would have been to actually learn something useful today. Like "How does Shoal react to pressure after the townie they argued with is revealed?" That would be an interesting question to answer. (Or someone else. Shoal is not that much more scummy-looking than anyone else, IMO, but was a clear place to push since there was some pre-existing suspicion that the evening's events increased.)
Also, Eva, the IMMORTAL works alone in the story, so unless you're positing some kind of Milliways villain coordination, I'm not sure why you'd consider that suspicious?

I think it's pretty likely that the scum don't all come from the same story, considering that this is 'short stories mafia' and most of them only really have a single villain.
Even if Yadal is working entirely alone, defending him when he's obviously nontown and will thus contribute significantly to information/voting issues later in the game does not make me feel like you're on our side.

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
I think that's fairly unlikely. We might have a huge pile of uncoordinated scum pointing in different directions, or a Libby-esque situation like game one, but I think fairies or some other in-story group mafia is most likely. And reducing the numbers of a group is much more important than hitting a neutral (specifically something like 2x as important). I don't deny he's a potential threat, but I still disagree with the threat prioritization. Because, again, 'newbie awkwardly trying to make friends' seems like a bad tactical target.
My win condition isn't pure-vanilla Town, but Yadal is in no way related to it and I have no private information related to him (at this time).

Re: Short Stories Mafia Game Thread
Hey everyone,
Sorry that I haven't really been on here the past couple of days. I had a couple of things come up irl that made it difficult to find the time. I will try to at least post once a day but I might not be able to depending on the way things go from here. I haven't had the chance to do more than skim the thread but until I can find the time, I can only say that I agree with everyone that Yadal is probably some form of scum due to his role claim. I know that it's probably a good idea to hunt for scum instead of specifically going after him but it's still the best lead we have at the moment.

I'll admit that I might be a bit influenced by my previous maf experience here, since I've previously played in crossover games where the scumteam was basically 'all the villains, working together.' Ultimately though, I would argue that we should probably not assume Yadal is on or not on a team merely because of his True Name and/or claim. (I also assert the contrapositive (?), that we should not assume that a fairyscum is on a team of fairyscum if we should happen to find one.)PlainDealingVillain wrote:I think that's fairly unlikely. "The tender heart: Win if the faction that wins has more than half of their initial members remaining. You count as whichever faction currently has the most active members."
"The gumshoe: Win if you got the chance to nighttarget sufficiently many scum."
"The philosopher: Win with town unless anyone is ever lynched unanimously(their vote excluded)."
"The vengeful child: Win if you find $specific_scum, at which point you kill them."
"The indecisive: your wincondition is randomized every two game days. It retains this clause."
"The karmic sponge: Lose if you are visited by more scum than townies."
ETA: Sorry, we weren't supposed to do listposts. I do not actually expect any of the above win conditions to be in the game.

Would rather not elaborate; giving information about might make it easier for scum to incapacitate me. Not the same as - wassisname - the ex-shren in Elcenia, but along those lines.
