I don't have much input on this discussion yet. Probably just gonna lurk until I have some strong suspicions or am back at my computer tomorrow. However, if the main problem with the list posts was people revealing their own powers, couldn't people just not do that? Like if your character x you could say "I really liked characters a and b and think they might have these powers" and then there's no danger of revealing your own but you might figure out someone else's? I didn't play the last game, so maybe that wouldn't work for reasons I'm not thinking of. I guess you'd be less likely to actually get anyone's power right, but it'd probably be entertaining and I'm not really sure what other use list posts would have.

The reason we originally wanted list posts was so that after you died people could know if you were a cop or not and then look at your reads so that if you had said you were townreading somebody we could know that probably meant they were town for sure. The mafia were given fake claims so that nobody had a suspicious name. People made lists of 20 names that *could* be their names and powers that *could* be theirs. Butp eople didn’t do it very well. And we had a flavourcop. So we could rule out a bunch of thiings just by cross referencing and using common sense. many lists could be narrowed down to just a few options, right from the start. and then at night we could investigate one person and see what their name really was and then look at their listpost to see what powers they had.

Your idea unfortunately has all of the drawbacks of listposts with none of the benefits. :/

Setup spec helps the mafia. it doesn’t help the town anywhere near as much as it helps the mafia.


I hope you don’t lurk too much, though. I know it’s hard to jump into the fray, and I get that it’s annoying posting from a phone, but even if you’re new and you’re not really sure of your opinions yet, you can help the town by putting in your ideas and trying to figure things out and helping us get to know you.

Can all our in-game problems be solved by the clever application of murder or attempted murder, and will this answer hold as long as there are enough of us left regardless of which ones those are?

A direct yes or no might give information on what win conditions are in the game. But correctly applied murder is a very powerful tool.


Edit: Since someone asked out-of-thread but this should be public. Characters may be drawn from any of the short stories on the short stories page. Rings is not excluded for recency, nor Water for length, and if there's some other possible variable then that isn't excluding things either.

The thing that makes me nervous about DanielH is that when he was Chelsea, he was talking a lot about theory and figuring out game mechanics, similar to how he is now. While when he was town in game two, he held back on day 1. Granted, he was only around for one day (three calendar days), but still, comparing his Day 1 in Effulgence mafia to his Day 1 in Elcenia mafia, I notice a difference.

He's only made one post on this thread. It wasn't scummy, but that's the thing. It didn't contain enough information to read him either way. Tamien also made one post, and you're voting her. What's the difference?

My notes on Daniel say: fluff, jokes, setup spec, defends self against jalapeño, wall of self defence against my push and more strategy and setup spec, brings up fairies, more fairy talk and asks a question from the mod

It’s not good, but i’m willing to let him be for now and revisit him tomorrow. Want to see some actually protown content from him soon though.

Yadal: wifom entrance but i’m townleaning them for it because they’re saying fluff posting is scummy and i agree that fluff is antitown because it clogs the thread and makes rereads more arduous but i’m not sure someone who has been scum before would make an entrance post like this because while it is a scum strategy it’s more of a secondary strategy or a side effect of other aims. Definitely want to see more from them, though.

Tamien: tried to get people back on track, posted countdown gif. on the one hand, we really do need those on every page and vote counts too. on the other hand i was trying to get towncred for it last time. but i think on a whole this should be considered null because it is something that helps the town and it is something that we need to have quoted on every page. Like if I call it a blatant towncred grab then nobody will do it and we really do need vote counts and countdown gifs to function as a town. Just need to see more from her is all. I liked that she was trying to herd cats and get people back on track, though.

I voted her before rereading the thread and making notes, though. But I want to give her time to respond to my vote and give myself time to develop stronger scum reads before moving on.

Though I am starting to wonder if jalapeno is scum for the third time in a row.

btw my stance on jokes is that jokes are great but there needs to be actual content that progresses the game in the same post with the jokes.
