Seventh Tower Series: a series of six books, the setting is in a world covered by The Veil a dark barrier that causes permanent darkness beneath it, there are noblelike people called The Chosen that use sunstones to manipulate light-based magic, and tie their shadows to spirit beings creating the servant "spiritshadows" The Chosen are divided in levels color coded for your convenience and are served by the magicless underfolk. The wikipedia page has more.

Riverworld: humanity is ressurected in a another planet as a bizarre secret test by aliens. This one has a sci-fi series.

I am not entirely sure if I watched it or not, but the setting sounds like something "bell-able"

I did read Seventh Tower, but it was a lifetime ago, but what I remember still sounds effulgence material

This is probably much likelier than the other option. What you guys have told us about WoT sounds like a setting it would be fun to play with, but not like a canon I'm eager to read.

Cool. Let us know if you have any other questions you would want answered, I guess (maybe on their own thread?) but otherwise, there's plenty of room to just take the idea and run. It's not as if you have any great need for anybody else's worldbuilding, for all the WoT has a lot of it.

Trying to think of other things that should be Effulgenced. There's a part of me that really wants *some* cyberpunk setting to get it, but I can't bring to mind any particular one that should. There's another part of me that wants to recommend the Safehold series by David Weber, just to see what you'd *do* with it, too. I'm having a little trouble slotting in characters, but what the hell, I'll give the pertinent (and not overly spoiler-y, though if you are spoiler-adverse maybe don't read the rest of this?) background details:
  • Sci-fi setting, humanity has faster-than-light travel and various other fancy tricks. Hostile alien race has all-but wiped out humanity, "Safehold" is a last-ditch remote colony. To avoid any location-betraying broadcasts, the colonists will be reduced to basically medieval tech level at first.
  • Some of the colony establishers decided they would enforce the low-tech thing by creating a religion (it contains some Christian terminology but is basically a complete fabrication) that prohibits technology over a certain level and discourages innovation. Only wind, water, muscle, and fire are acceptable energy sources, the fourth is frowned upon when not needed, and the inquisitors who control all this err on the side of "No".
  • The colony was only supposed to stay low-tech for a few generations, long enough for the aliens to move on. However, the plan was altered. Some 800 years after the colony is established, the church is very powerful but very corrupt and tech has basically not advanced at all.
  • At this point, a mind-uploaded woman with a humaniform robotic avatar "wakes up", discovered that the world has gone badly off the rails, and decided to get things back on track. She remembers everything but nobody alive even knows things like her can exist, and if they did she would be completely illegal.
  • Meanwhile, the church is getting antsy about the nations located furthest from their center of power, which is showing signs of being dangerously innovative. They decide its time to crack down on the relevant continent (think Australia).
  • It turns out war is good fodder for innovation, and even working within the Proscriptions there's all kinds of things that a student of military history can teach. Guess where the (disguised) android goes...

Ahahahahahaha. That sounds interesting!

edit: Also, if you felt like collecting up your WoT information into a thread of its own, perhaps in Miscellanea or something, that would be awesome and would significantly increase the chance of me deciding to Joker it. I can't speak for Alicorn, of course.

That setting sounds like a cross between Memory of Earth, Samaria, and the Roanoake plot from the Old Man's War series.

I don't have the tolerance for the military. Aegis went to military school but it's not quite the same.
