Let's Write a Story Together, One Sentence at a Time!

Post by jalapeno_dude »

I think this forum needs more silly forum game-type things. So I'll start one. Let's do the classic "everyone continues a story" thing. I'll start:

It was only very recently that I realized, thinking back to that critical day, that the advice I had been given was perhaps not optimal.

Respond!

(I fully expect the story to descend into crackfic/humor/glowfic in-jokes, but I figured I'd at least allow for the potential to avoid that for a little while.)

Rules should be obvious. Post your sentence in bold and on a new line. Try not to react to other people's contributions without posting one yourself (and if you comment while also submitting a sentence, try to make the comment shorter, or at least not much longer, than the sentence itself). You're encouraged to post quickly rather than overthinking.

Typical forum etiquette for these sorts of things is to not post unless at least two other people have posted in the intervening time since the last time you posted. This is to prevent the game from turning into a back-and-forth between two people. It seems like a good starting point, and we can callibrate the two-intervening-posts limit up or down if necessary.

Oh man.

It turns out that it is definitely a bad idea to buy a pet tiger.

And in fact it was not until the tiger hit its troubled adolescent years that the troubles started.

I wrote out two sentences in the time it took those three to get posted. Bler. Trying once more.

It had been a very tractable cub, but all too soon, it had fallen in with the wrong crowd.

It cut its fur in an obnoxious pattern, it got piercings in strange places, it backtalked, wore strange clothes, it clawed the furniture - but that was not the worst part.

I tried to warn him away from them, but every entreaty was met with surly glares and cries of "You're not my real mom!"

You see, after the couch was shredded, we thought the worst had happened--but then it found out about the hydrofluoric acid in the garage.

I soon came to miss the simpler dread of being tackled at the door when I came home from school.
