And honestly, it should only take a couple months, not several.

Fair enough. Hopefully it should be entertaining enough to read later without fully comprehending (or being confident in comprehension of) the rules, since that's part of the point of playing this on a forum anyway. I have PM'd Bethesda (as Kappa likely noticed, since I sent the same PM to her as well) and should be able to begin soon.

I am like, pretty happy to explain rules to people as we go. I cannot learn how to play games from reading rulebooks; I have to learn while playing. Considering the game is already likely to last for the remainder of our natural lives, I don't really think explaining stuff as we go is likely to slow us down appreciably. I also generally play this game extremely cooperatively with a lot of strategic "okay, so on my turn, I'll do this, and then on your turn, you'll do that, so that on their turn, they can do the thing" (which playstyle may be against the rules, but if it is, screw the rules, it's more fun this way). That all being said, I'm not the one running the game here, but if it keeps kappa in, I'd be for waiving the rulebook stipulation and explaining as we go.

Ah, hmm, it seems I should clarify: I was already intending to do some explanation since it was requested by Aestrix, and merely intended to request that all players give the rulebook a once-over. If Kappa feels he would be reasonably competent at the game given instruction from myself and/or Tamien, I would be glad to accommodate him, especially given Tamien's point about learning.

I have no good way to predict how easily I'll pick up the game as we go along and I don't want to slow the game down even further by understanding nothing...
