... I wasn't thinking about the entire world as sapient. I know the wizardry reservoir is, and I know the dragon reservoir (which I have a tendency to call "Draconic", sorry) is, but sapient universes are new to me. :p

Universes as a class can catch ialdae slightly differently than people can.

Generally, when Matilda uses a lot of ialdae at home, other random people who have not been near her start sometimes having ialdic ability. This is what is meant by the universe catching ialdae: random people she hasn’t met might catch ialdae.

Would dragonishes catch ialdae from the universe much faster than others would, like they do from having it directly performed on them?

I mean, it has Opinions, and it takes away its magic on its annoying whims, and it does annoying things to shrens? It certainly seems aware.

Yes, people who catch ialdae faster one way will also catch it faster the other way.

Mundane languages can also have opinions (for example, the English language is of the opinion that the typical person is male: see penmanship, workmanship, etc., even without using “he” as a default pronoun), and annoying things happen (like losing stuff or not having enough in the first place) without direct sapient intervention.
