Luminosity/Radiance

Post by Anya »

I'm rereading Luminosity for the first time in a while, and noticed something. Figured I'd make a general Luminosity/Radiance discussion thread for everyone to use.

Bella has just been told that Edward can read minds and naturally freaks out. She thinks about running away back to Phoenix and “-ways to get my grandma to take me in,”.

I thought both her grandmothers were dead?

In Twilight canon they are both dead, in 1991 and 1999 according to the twilight wikia

I didn't remember doing that. I usually write Bells as having no living grandparents by the time anything interesting happens to them, although they sometimes have great-aunts of varying relevance. Let's just quietly pretend that Renée made friends with an old lady in Phoenix who is one of those people everyone is invited to consider their grandma.

Does imagining headcanons about their reuniting after years counts as non-quietly pretending?

Where's the original source of the cover art Goodreads has on record for Luminosity and Radiance? I kind of expected them to be somewhere on the Luminosity site, given their similarity to the site's banner, but I couldn't find them anywhere there; I've seen the Radiance one only on Goodreads, and the Luminosity one only on Goodreads and Tvtropes.

Also, is there any cover art for Flashes based on the same template as those two? I'm trying to fill in all the missing covers in my ebook library, and it feels a bit lopsided right now, with Luminosity and Radiance having covers but Flashes being coverless.

I don't know. I didn't make them and they're kind of impressive Photoshopping from the available banner.

When I first started reading Luminosity, I said on Less Wrong that Bella has no character. (I hadn't and still haven't read Twilight.) Now that I have finished the story, I think that assessment might be technically true in the beginning, but I like the story too much to think that it's of much importance. Wondering if I should try Radiance next or read some other Alicornfic.

I usually recommend that people move directly to Radiance after they finish Luminosity. If Bella bores you you probably won't like my glowfic that much, but there's Elcenia, Goldmage, and short stories (the latter of which have the least requirement that you be able to extract entertainment from my characterization skills, since they're often premise-driven).
