Re: Sandbox Discussions
Zinc is actually perfectly safe from name-based envassalization, because her name is supposed to be magic and she does not have one. For dragons in general you need the personal name, not the line name or added syllables.
Re: Sandbox Discussions
Avet's template name is Yvette, she's kind of new and a large portion of her personality therefore comes from me until she grows her own, but I find her fun to write. Especially after Adarins in particular - they do a thing where they ignore their own psychological health. Yvette does not do that thing. It's very soothing to write in the brainspace of someone who is self aware enough to not break themselves trying to accomplish things, and have a character that actively values self improvement. She's got other personality traits besides that, obviously, but I don't quite know her well enough to write an essay on the template and associated traits.
Poll_the_stars is part of a line that is kind of hard to explain, isn't written anywhere and exists floating around in my head, but ultimately amounts to, "Poll the stars. See if they care." Yvette's effective answer to that is that they do not, and that's okay, because it's our job as people to A: Care and B: Do something about various problems. It seemed appropriate to give her that screenname, even if I'd be the only one to get it.

Yeah, I was thinking she seemed a bit like an Adarin but able to take care of herself. The “a bit like an Adarin” part isn't particularly accurate, because there are other differences, but I think she's more like Adarins than like any of your other templates.

@Aestrix: I like that quote. I'm going to save it :p. (Reminds me of HPMoR's "There is a light in the world and it is us" line.) Is it literally not written anywhere (ex. because you came up with it but never put it in a story) or can you not find it anymore?
@Alicorn: Ah, I see. I was also thinking of breaking a line edict or something, but if you need the personal name anyway that doesn't work.
Also, just for clarity - the meaning behind a nickname doesn't matter, it's not like Dresden's name-from-your-own-lips deal where Chris-means-Christine might work and Chris-means-Christopher wouldn't. If you introduce yourself as Tina you're safe, and if you introduce yourself as Chris the magic grabs "Christopher"?

Re: Sandbox Discussions
Right.
Re: Sandbox Discussions
@DanielH: Yep, I'll agree, she's more like Adarins than my others. I mean, I can see some huge glaring difference between them, personally (she has displayed much more of a temper, she is more driven by direct examples of how things affect her life/the life of her loved ones, less social awkwardness, has more of a standing affection with children, etc.) but she is on a similar kick that Adarins are on.
@linkhyrule5: Literally not written anywhere. I think there's a thing that is extremely introspective that I wrote that has something similar to the line, I distinctly remember stars being mentioned (I have a particular fondness for stars xD) but it doesn't quite have the same meaning. I might eventually try to write the entire head-notion down, but as of right now it is a vague floating head notion.

Re: Sandbox Discussions
Both.
It's not that Adarins don't like children, it's that Avet has displayed a something that has to do with her having kids. Specifically, the entire reason she started working on saving dragon babies? She flirted with a dragon. Once. She's somewhere between 200-300 and doesn't particularly want to settle down and have kids at the moment. The knowledge that one day her kids could die before they're a month old was what made her start her quest to fix it. The idea that her hypothetical kids could die was a huge glaring DO NOT WANT. Adarins lack that specific thing, they would try to get around/avoid the problem. Avet said, 'Fuck no.'
Adarins are a bit awkward around kids and sort of don't know what to do with them if they're not their kids, but with their own kids they are pretty good parents.

Re: Sandbox Discussions
I don’t think we’ve actually seen an Adarin with kids, have we?
Re: Sandbox Discussions
Nope! But they are pretty good parents. :)
