Ask The Alethiometer!

If it's germane, yet doesn't fit into another category, it can go here.

Truth Craft = truthwright = Kas

So "Elspeth speaks the truth" is just plain true, and the alethiometer was having fun talking to Kas due to his fluency.

Aaaaaaalmost!

Dolphin = joke.

Truth/speak/speak/truth is just plain true, and Kas understood it as a joke.

Yes, or "understood" wouldn't have been the meaning the alethiometer used.

Ah, right.

Alethiometer, why can only cloudpine witches cast the kind of magic they do?

Witch-magic-witch-craft

Witches can cast witch-magic because it is a thing that witches do?

Or it could be witch-gods-witch-magic (only witches can cast witch-magic because the witch gods say so), but if I recall correctly the witch gods turned out to be more a conceptual thing, so I don't think that would make as much sense. Also, I think the Madonna would be a closer fit for the gods. Also, "witch" is no longer a word.
