Edit: Since this has become my author thread, updated the title.
I want to Glowfic more. To aid in finding potential glowfic co-authors, I've written the following brief list of 'worlds I want to play with.' If you would like to learn more about any particular world, or put forwards another setting you would like to write in, feel free to ask!
Without further ado, the list, in no particular order.
1: Cloudbank, an ephemeral, utopian city of art, fashion, and the people's will. Collective voting on the city's ubiquitous terminals decides the week's architecture, the color of the sky, the weather...

2: The Echo Bazaar, and all that flows from its bloated perch above the heart of Fallen London. Polythreme, where nothing is truly dead. The Iron Republic, Hell's client-state, free of all laws, even those of nature. The Drowned Man and his red-robed acolytes with their obsidian knives. The Irrigo light that steals memory. Parabola and the Serpent-kings. All the wonderful and terrible things outside the light of the sun.

3: Creation. The immense branches of the World-ash, Ygdrassil, holding a billion worlds. Heaven shining amid the crown of its branches: Hell smouldering at its roots. The Weirding Wall, that vast cup of blue-green fire that encompasses the universe, and the Excrusians, who ride down from the open top of Creation, in the Not, to destroy and unmake. And, in turn, the Nobles and Imperators, stewards of the four-cornered Mythic earth, each in turn protecting their Estates. The Power of Halloween, resplendent in orange and black: The Power of Swords, bearing Excalibur, blade of kings.

4: And finally, Gap, my own setting, which has its own thread already.

Re: Eva's List of Settings for Glowfic
I'm familiar with Fallen London and Sunless Sea, and would totally be up for doing things in that universe.

Ooh, those are some cool settings you have there! And I will have much more time for glowficcing starting this weekend. I have a pair who could arrive at any world that could plausibly be described as 'dying' (They live in a worldhopping building they can't steer, named The Lifeboat) or could probably shove them into being natives of Echo Bazaar or Creation quickly.

I think I need to know more about Cloudbank and Echo Bazaar before saying anything more.
I do have two God-like characters that might fit into Creation.

I do have a vague urge to glowfic in Fallen London, but oh man, that sounds hard...
Re: Eva's List of Settings for Glowfic
Regarding Echo Bazaar, to quote the intro of Sunless Sea:
Basically, it's Victorian-type London, in a quasi-Lovecraftian underworld, and everyone pretty much just accepts at face value that mirrors are dangerous to your health and sanity, that Devils walk the streets looking for souls to purchase, and that you may have to call in the exterminators to protect your pantry from the depredations of heavily-armed sentient rats.
This should, in and of itself, tell you whether you're interested in the setting.Three decades ago, in the reign of Victoria, London was stolen by bats. Now it lies a mile below the surface. It was dreadfully inconvenient for everyone.

Re: Eva's List of Settings for Glowfic
That describes Creation very well, the Echo Bazaar a little less so, and Cloudbank least of all, but still 'doably.' Creation is an innately very high-power setting, so to do much interesting we might have to arrange for your pair of characters to be Sharded by an Imperator and become Powers of something: Fallen London has no such issues.PlainDealingVillain wrote:I have a pair who could arrive at any world that could plausibly be described as 'dying' (They live in a worldhopping building they can't steer, named The Lifeboat) or could probably shove them into being natives of Echo Bazaar or Creation quickly.
(A brief aside on Creation's Estates: There are Powers of everything. Everything. From Death, to Blankets, to Denial, to Lipton Instant Noodles, each with almost absolute control over things of their Estate. If you are a mortal and you happen to meet a Power, that is unlikely to be a good day for you.)
Anything in specific you'd like to ask about?Bluelantern wrote:I think I need to know more about Cloudbank and Echo Bazaar before saying anything more.
Also, most everyone is racist against the local golems and squid-faced entrepeneurs.Endovior wrote:Regarding Echo Bazaar... (snip)

So, when our heroes got emPowered, did they displace existing Powers, or are their Estates things that previously hadn't existed, or what?Eva wrote:(A brief aside on Creation's Estates: There are Powers of everything. Everything. From Death, to Blankets, to Denial, to Lipton Instant Noodles.
Re: Eva's List of Settings for Glowfic
Their Estates were formerly held by Victoria, and administrated by other, broader Powers - somewhere out there, there's an Angel with the Estate of Existence, who has duty over 'things that exist', so ultimately someone cares - but it's much more effective, on the whole, to give smaller concepts than that to individual Powers. Even Powers can't be everywhere at once in a causal world. (The Deep Mythic does not have this problem, but we don't go there. Because it doesn't have this problem.)Lambda wrote:So, when our heroes got emPowered, did they displace existing Powers, or are their Estates things that previously hadn't existed, or what?Eva wrote:(A brief aside on Creation's Estates: There are Powers of everything. Edit: In other words, Powers with concepts as narrow as "Lipton Instant Noodles" are relatively rare, because there's probably a Power Of Pasta who's administrating that, and Lipton Instant Noodles are not important enough to need their own Power. But they still happen, on occasion, whether due to the whims of the Imperators or because Lipton Instant Noodles turn out to be really surprisingly important to reality in this specific edge case.
