Jalapeño-dude--Claims to be a Matilda. I find it suspicious that he claims not to be able to stop murders, but I'd rather not risk killing another friendly power role.

To expand on this a little bit: I don't actually know if I can stop murders. The wording of my power in the PM from Alicorn (which apparently I cannot quote here) is ambiguous--I can stop nighttime actions, but I don't know what exactly those actions are. If I had to guess, though, I'd guess that I couldn't stop murders by mafia (because murders are carried out by the entire mafia collectively, not an individual one, right? At least that's how I've always played it). We collectively seemed to be confused on serial killers, but if there is one and they decide on kills independently of the mafia, I'd guess that I *might* be able to stop that killing, which is unambiguously done by one person, if it does count as a nighttime action. I never targeted tau, so I guess there isn't evidence either way.

I will also vote Paradox.

It is incredibly obvious to me from the fact that only one person has died each night that the only "serial killers" in this game are the primary anti-town faction (or "mafia"), not the third party serial killer role, and I am honestly baffled that this is not as obvious to everyone else.

Also the first post mentioning them as "serial killers" used the plural.

I suspect the way it works is: the mafia jointly decide who among them is going to do the kill. If the designated killer is roleblocked, they don't kill. @thatwasademo above me. yeah, i would assign over 99% probability that this is the case. It would take entirely too much coincidence for there to be separate killing factions with only one death per night for so many nights in a row.

I fully believe jalapeno_dude is a roleblocker because him targeting DanielH on Night 3 coincides with events that multiple people have referenced (me not being fully Chelsea'd, and getting my one dose of Chelsea on Night 4.)

I also think that the mafia could have a roleblocker. One of the variations on the page Shoal linked is a mafia roleblocker, who can prevent beneficial actions like healing. So, I am still suspicious of jalapeno_dude but much less so.

Also Demo--that's interesting. Are you saying there is no organized crime faction and a bunch of individual killers who might be alternating nights? That would certainly explain the dynamics of these weird end-game interactions.

No, I am saying that what have been referred to as "serial killers" are almost definitely the same as what we have been calling "mafia", that is to say, the traditional primary anti-town faction in a game of "mafia" who are ordinarily called "mafia" or "werewolves".

Though your theory is not impossible, it would be rather unusual for that to be the case to the point where I'm not sure if it's worth considering.

I pretty much agree with anthusiasm's reasoning. I think anthusiasm is probably telling the truth about being a Darcy without powers.
Also, the votes on the last one are weird and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of wacky voting shenanigans going on. Because with my doublevote, tau's vote should have been at 7, and if one was stolen, it would have been at 6, and there would have been still only 4 votes for Thatwasademo.
My current ideas about what might be happening are: A combination of a mafia power-blocker and vote transplanter with one to block my doublevote and the other to move one of the votes to Thatwasademo, a blocker to stop my doublevote and a hammerer, something weird?
This leaves Paradox as most likely suspect, with the second most suspicion for jalapeno-dude and Thatwasademo.

I'm Miles (given that I'm only him in game I don't think saying that saying I give my word as a Vorkosigan will convince anyone). I don't have any powers as far as I know so if you guys do kill me don't worry about losing a town-aligned power role.

What do you mean by staying out of the way? I mean I've participated in the game, made my suspicions known, speculated about its structure, voted... I'm not sure what else I could have been doing unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean by saying I've stayed out of the way.

If people have other reasons for being suspicious of me, I'd appreciate them explaining those reasons to me so I have an opportunity to address them.

This does not seem like a good reason not to kill someone. The killers could predict that we'd be worried about this and so claim power roles to discourage us from killing them. Danielh claimed to be a friendly power role so it's totally possible for an anti-town player to fake being a friendly power role.

A lot of people have said that they think the mafia have a roleblocker. The mafiascum wiki specifically lists the reason for having a pro-town roleblocker as being to stop the night kill and he's saying he doesn't even know if he can do that, really? I'm thinking that it's likely that Jalapeno-dude is mafia who decided to claim to be a town-aligned roleblocker because he thought that if we saw that part of what he said was true we'd assume all of it was. The best lies are based on the truth. I think it's likely that mafia power roles got safe claims that would let them easily fake being town aligned power roles. I mean alpha was loosely town aligned and he got one. I think the actual mafia power roles would definitely get them.
