We might just forbid crypto in the future. It doesn't seem to add much in terms of fun and it's very complicated.

Please do this. My enjoyment of the game decreased rapidly the moment crypto was introduced.

Especially if all the bad guys are given safe claims, which defeats a lot of the purpose of the cryptography anyway. Also there have been a lot of problems with making the crypto actually work, and it's a lot more of a hassle on mobile.

If you do actually want something like that as a game element - why not just have the mods play messagekeeper? Like, each player can tell the mods some small number of things each day, and then later when they want to prove that they said that thing that day they can have the mods confirm it? You'd want some level of formalization so it doesn't get too annoying for the mods to keep track of maybe, but it definitely does the thing if the thing wants doing.

Yeah, banning crypto is also an option. It’s still an interesting problem and I still want to figure it out, though.

The point of what I’m doing is trying to get rid of a lot of the hassle of getting it to work, the problems on mobile, etc. It’s a fun problem to solve from a UI design perspective even if it’s banned in future Mafia games here.

There are a few elements of this game I definitely want to steal.¹

Those who don’t like the crypto idea for reasons other than “safeclaims defeat some of the purpose” or “it’s a hassle to do, especially on mobile” (or who think they have a reason it’s especially hasslesome to them that I’m not considering), please PM me with details. I’m especially interested in whether everybody understands what the crypto is supposed to do or if they were just lemming-ing², and whether their dislike includes the [url]random.org[/url] use we’ve seen?

As for new rules, Alicorn mentioned Elcenia on Twitter. I hope her Leekath is better than the one I came up with, because mine wouldn’t work well and I’d like one in the game.

² I know some people were just following along at first, but I don’t know if they eventually understood the point or not.
