Timepoof thread

This is my specific forum thread. I have convenient alliteration.

I did this!

Characters: I am at this time mostly only comfortable writing a self-insert until further notice.

Settings:
Taliadu

A setting thread: Moondust
The Room
I have an idea for interworld travel and possibly better coordination for three plus author continuities if not sandboxes. I've mentioned this before but it was a bit vague and did not fully showcase the potential or explain the idea very well. Also I thought of something new.

The idea is that there exists a room with two chairs, which sometimes also have a table between them. If two people are summoned and then swap chairs, they go to the other person's world (*regardless of the Table's wishes). (There are of course time pausing* and translation effects.)

The table is sentient, the controller of the room and the chairs, and very bored. It prefers the pronoun it and has no preference on the topic of names. It can control the Room and its workings relatively fully, such as being able to swap and summon people without the chairs, and perform healings and conjurations in itself. You can think of the table as being a mish mash of the admin, Callahan (right? The BEE of Materia, anyway), Throne's MO, Moondust, Bar, and possibly Eru.

It likes to summon two people at once to the room (both sitting on or standing near their own chair), and either talk to them, inform them of how the Room works and what it can do; or vanish its table form and just watch the people in the room be confused and possibly swap them if it seems interesting to it.

Once it has swapped two people, it can see outside the Room and around them, so it is very likely to check up on them and possibly let them back into the Room. It can also sometimes summon people around the swapped. Plot/amusement takes priority over most things.

It is not always able to summon a pair of people on the first try, and it can't summon a third person for more than about 5 minutes - they get auto unsummoned, or worse.

The Table can, if the authors wish it, be able to swap bodies, power sets, and more. In universe, if it becomes relevant, this is the future of Table (it could hypothetically tell past Table what would have happened next)

The Room can also be used by other authors without my involvement by modifying it to: not contain a table, independently summon random pairs of people, have a leaflet about the chair swapping. This is glossed as being earlier than Table.

Some old stuff:
OLD
None of the boxes are actually spoilers, just shortened for convenience.
My characters are:
Amy
Cheerful, sometimes too cheerful, if something bad happened to her then she goes a bit Stepford Smiler-y.
Hates responsibility.
Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor, depending on where her friends get sorted.
Morning person.
Likes social stuff and adventure and excitement.
Loyal to anyone who gets the 'friend' label in her head, very loyal to those that pass into 'best friend' or 'gender friend' territory
Does not do that well in school, except in singing and occasionally other subjects for a little while, but then finds study tips and changes schools and raises her grades to average.
Doesn't think things through, impulsive in phase 1.
A bit more careful if in phase 2.
If she has powers and is in phase 1, be careful. Be very, very careful. If she moves to do something, stop her, at least by grabbing her arm: if on her first inspection, she sees nothing wrong, she will explain it. If whatever-it-is is a good idea, you can let her do it. If it is not, point out the flaw. She will grudgingly admit that it was bad.
Loves singing and is very good at it.
Her parents are very busy all the time so they end up neglectful.
Is bi.
Really, really wants new powers because it's just so awesome having powers
Tends to be very influenced by perspective: in the Flora in Milliways box, her note was most focused on the masochism aspect, and she went in just after minting herself, so she only considered that but didn't realise the implications of "wishes" /spoiler-box
Flora
Has Autistic qualities: has to have her clothes, food and desk just so, hates any sort of sensory enhancement, sometimes has meltdowns (much rarer than typical); is okay with people but a bit shy and soft-spoken. Has special interest in magic, and that overrides the shy by a long shot.
Likes studying, especially magic (and technology, if in sci-fi world/earthficcy world)
Really, really wants to please authority figures, especially her parents.
Has strict parents who want her to have the best education possible, and usually homeschool her, loading her up with things that are too hard, (unless there is an obvious prestigious school like Hogwarts). She tries to keep up, but it gives her self-esteem issues. They are fixable.
Ravenclaw, with a bit of Hufflepuff if she really wants to be there, but usually picks Ravenclaw to please her parents.
Can sketch what she sees, not perfectly but enough for a viewer to have a pretty good idea of what it looks like
Has an attractor for freaking out over losing her magic.
By the sortinghatchats system, Gryffindor Primary and Ravenclaw Secondary.
The more time she spends away from her parents in her teenage years the more bi she is and the less the straighter.
She is very influenced by (some of) the emotions of people around her. Specifically excitement, fear and sadness./spoiler-box
Zane
Keeps his cool when in danger or confused, a stoic when things get tough
Efficient, an organizer for people
If world allows, gets a danger sense, radar, or short-term precognition
Does not seek out social stuff, but does not avoid it, on the edge between intravert and extravert
A natural leader
Knows a bit of parkour, a bit of Krav Maga, a bit of everything in the sports department
Completely useless at most forms of self-expression except dancing. (which he likes)
Does hip-hop dancing as a hobby
Tends to get attacked and robbed somewhere in his early teens, learns Krav Maga because of it
Slytherin Primary with a Hufflepuff model with a Reactionary Secondary, but I don't really understand that part of the system.
Hates fights in his inner circle and being ignored, if pushed too far he gets coldly physical
Switches gender readily, both as a template and per instance
The trust of people in his inner circle is important to him
He's easy-going, gets along with most people, hard to annoy unless you press all his buttons at once
He gives up easily when learning a new skill unless it is very important to him /spoiler-box

Angzel
It's a normal Earth and the magic isn't widely known - it's magic that gets enacted when you calm down in response to some sort of superstitious action of significance to you, and the particular magic enacted is usually luck plus something linked to what you were nervous about and how you expected the superstitious action to help in specific.

The magic prefers effects that are subtle: luck, minor physical/mental boosts, minor healing/protections, and just making things hard to notice or not noticeable at all.
It can do more complicated/obvious things, but since the magnitude and range of the effects depend on how much/how directedly you can panic over a thing and how sharply you can calm down from that, it's pretty hard to do the thing.
If you use the magic a lot it does get easier, though.

It's basically like if you had a superstition that rubbing your hands is good luck and you were worried before an exam and you rubbed your hands and then calmed down because you really truly believe that the action is lucky then it is actually magically lucky. /spoiler-box
I have various ideas for settings which are not yet developed
1) It's totally normal, except magic doesn't work there at all, no coins/enchantment/magic creatures/etc. You can do magical travel via Milliways and Key and Fairyland Tear but only from somewhere, to it. Same with Freecasting: to -- yep; from -- nope.
Torchability and daeva/fairy indestructibility works, I think, but in a way that throws them out if they would have been dead and doesn't let them back in.
2) Anyone with a Sphere (i.e. magic power storage space) can produce Power (by having sustained positive emotions (depression destroys it)) and use it (and convert to elemental).
There's elemental Power which can be used directly and fluidly, sort of like in A:tLA except there's more elements (and it's unstable, more on that later)
And then there's pure Power which is the kind you produce with the emotions and it can do spells (which are basically functions, like in programming, with only one input (what you use them on)) and they're stable but less flexible (if you want to use the same spell under slightly different circumstances you have to re-make it with the change)

The kind of unstable it is, is a bit like a tap that sometimes has water come out faster and sometimes slower and you have to fill a bucket just the right amount, and you can turn off/low/medium/high but that's only a bit of help because you can't predict when it's going to pour faster or pour slower.
Alternative to tap metaphor: so there's a hole and stuff is coming through, and you can control the size of the hole, and it's important to have the right volume or mass of stuff coming through, but it sometimes comes through fast and sometimes slow.

The elements are divided into two groups, one that does normal-element things and one that's me-exclusive and it gives you metaphorical rust/mould on your tap/in your bathroom:
Energy, Fire, Water, Earth, Air
and
Balance, Heart, Knowledge, Light, Harmony.
Every person has one element they specialize in. It can be converted to (from pure) much quicker but it ends up being harder to use, (but also more resistant to metaphorical rust/mould)

When the rust/mould accumulates enough, with every use of that element you run a risk corresponding to that element.
The risks and uses for each element are as follows:
  1. Energy: general tk, lightning, magical constructs (stun bolts, force blasts), force fields
  2. Fire: heat control, light (also illusions), combustion
  3. Water: basically water bending with breathing it added in
  4. Earth: stone, sand, metal, sometimes dead wood, sometimes plastics etc. manipulation
  5. Air: airbending, sometimes flight, rarely sounds
  6. Balance: transmutation (small areas at a time), convert element to element, infuse spell.
Risk: if transmutation, it may de-transform somewhere inconvenient. If infusing spell, it becomes a kind of magic bomb that could be set off.
  7. Heart: tinker with emotions, make a Sphere
Risk: emotions -- may scramble the mind, Spheres -- your own Sphere may shatter
  8. Knowledge: enchantment-like servants, Talyn-teaching/Sueish telepathy, creating spells
Risk: sentience, a scrambled mind, lowering your elemental control respectively
  9. Light: restore/fix (Reparo/triangle), heal (elcenian light/auras: does scars too), defend/ward (stands up to 70% of magic exploding
Risk: making a non-euclidean space there, may become addictive for patient or healer, may explode on its own respectively
  10. Harmony: power link (adds up Sphere capacity and specialities), harvesting Power from the environment and your Sphere away from yourself, storing spare Power in objects without infusion (no explosions)
Risk: Sphere may end up stuck outside your body and you become unable to do any magic at all, same for next.
Making a spell is a bit like recording a video: you do things with elemental magic or other spells while using a bit of Knowledge to record the sequence of actions and when you're done, you can perform the spell exactly how you did it the first time, but only with a short effort/concentration at the beginning and the rest happens without input and without risks/unstableness.
It's got the masquerade and the standard shadow government. Spheres are not inherited, they have to be made.
These worlds are malleable for now so they can change. If you've seen the original, yes, it has changed since then. /spoiler-box
I would like to glowfic
Fandom:
Potterverse, any variants thereof
Buffyverse, with other person as the setting
Steven Universe
Gravity Falls
Friendship is Magic
Avatarverse

Glowfic original:
Critters 'verse
Daeva stuff
Momentum
Shadowpolis
Arabek

ALL OF THE MAGICAL GIRLS, ALL OF THEM, seriously:
Madokaverse
Nanohaverse
Gruesome magical girls
Maggie's magical girls, if that is valid

General:
Breaking the 4th Wall, interactive narrator style or Author Avatar style, because that other thread was AMAZING
Comedy stuff
BDSM AUs
Earthfic with daily life shown.

My worlds, seen above.

Re-worldbuilt for glowfic:
Molly Moon
Winx Club
W.I.T.C.H
Ben 10

I tend to like combining two worlds, and have a strange aversion to spaceships (Aegis and Sue arc took a while to read)/spoiler-box

I am really addicted to glowfic but right now I am busy and have low motivation. If your idea for a new glowfic is really good, you can poke me into doing it, but I might keep forgetting to tag and stuff. Poking applies to existing boxes too.
Ask me anything!

I haven't gotten around your Sapphire and Flora thread yet, so sorry if there is an Amy there, but what would Amy's house be?

also, could you sort Amy and Flora's birth blessings? Which are three blessings draw at birth and sort of represent you and your life as a whole.

Amy might be Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, depending on the circumstances and where friends get sorted and so on.

Amy: Joy, Imagination, Luck (Sweela with a crown of Coru)
Flora: Persistence, Patience, Intelligence (Torz)

Note: I may change the elements if I find out more, I'm not sure. Someone help.

I have questions about how Moondust works!

Once you've found your activation conditions, activated, and then lost focus, do you need to be re-sprinkled to re-activate, or can you do so whenever you meet the conditions? If you get sprinkled and don't find activation conditions, does getting sprinkled again give you another shot?

Do people generally make elixirs solo, or do they do it like surgery, with a team of people to help you/remind you of things/measure stuff for you/hand you tools?

How well-integrated into society is the magic? Do hospitals stock elixirs and have a team of magicians? Are there industrial moondust producers who just have fields of crystal balls and teams of harvesters? Can you buy moondust at the 7-11?

Whenever you meet the conditions. You have your whole life to find your activation condition, and another sprinkle doesn't give you more unless you've already activated the first set.
It's generally Master + bunch of Apprentices.
Hospitals stock elixirs, but elixir makers are freelance. The really big ones do have someone on-call though.
...I did not think of that... Rebooting brain, thinking, loading explanation...
There are and you can, but usually people use their own outside of emergencies/cloudy nights because it's just cheaper to invest once into an enhanced crystal ball and that's it.
Also, it's very cool to watch it appear. I forgot to mention, moondust glows. And there's a really cool lightshow when it appears.

So the world doesn't destroy portals that go to it, it just prevents people from leaving through them? Could you settle a Fairyland gate there, and it would just end up being one way, or would it not settle?

Every person has one element they specialize in.
As in, they specialize in one of any of the 10? So someone might specialize in "Harmony", and another might specialize in "Energy"? Or just one of the first five, or do they get one from each group?

Can you get rid of the "rust/mould"? Or is it a permanent thing, so you have to be careful how much you use the magic, or...?

Edit: Added a question.
