Some of the voices are surprising, but in a way, that improves the story, which was already great.

Well yes, Alicorn is an immortal superbeing who feeds upon the tears of readers.

I don't really think of Earthfic as being that much of a downer o.O Certainly it's no sadder than the corresponding, relatively harmless portion of reality. Nobody's getting maimed or brainwashed or anything.

Well, it certainly it isnt the Shell story, but "no permanent physical and mental injury" is not really a great standards for not-downer things you know. The story pretty much ends with the protagonist "defeated" by a cultural aspect that can't be escaped.
