I previously mentioned being interested in characters having freeform “profile” text for their character pages. I just thought of another use for it: there are often threads that are considered to be “introduction to this character” (or, for that matter, the setting they came from even if that character doesn't appear) and it would be useful if people had a place to link things like that.

...so, the icon for "permanently abandoned" is visually indistinguishable from the icon for "content warning" at a glance, and I was very confused looking at my Tags Owed page just now, and actually marked one of the abandoned threads as hiatused for a minute because I thought it was marked "has warnings, still active".

Suggested alternatives:

The closed book icon like for "complete", but grey
A closed trash can(?)
A closed door
A white flag, because we have surrendered
A blue square, for no good reason except that it's distinctive and doesn't have an obvious conflicting meaning
Clouds, same rationale as the blue square

I agree with Kappa, except
I dislike the trashcan idea for probably no good reason
Please do not do the blue square; I expect it would not be distinct from the blue closed book for complete.

I think the grey book would be best, bit that preference is less strong than the others.


Also, in the dropdown to mark read/hide continuities, I don’t know what order the continuities are listed on but it is not one I find intuitive. Could you alphabetize them to make it easier to find things in the list?

I agree on the grey closed book idea. Blue square would look like the 'complete' book too much, imo, and the gray book makes more sense I think as a variant on 'complete'.

I like gray book or closed door, with clouds as a third choice ("lost to the mists of time"). I join DanielH in having a strong negative visceral reaction to the trashcan.


I am very much looking forward to having the "world" fields be unified into something more consistent, when that comes up on the Endless To-Do List. It would be cool to have "worlds" be objects in the same way "templates" or "characters" are, and be able to click on a world to see a list of threads set in it and characters from it (maybe even have icons assigned to it?)

Grey book gets my vote as well

Having "worlds" be things would be nifty, especially if they could be posted as like characters - I have a character right now who is in fact a setting, and this is Vaguely Dissatisfying.

Of my suggested icons, I think the clouds are prettiest and the grey book is clearest

add another vote for the grey book and another anti-vote for the trashcan.

I think I can now put why I dislike the trashcan into words: it looks too much like a delete icon. Just because a thread is abandoned does not mean it is our should be deleted.
