Actually I think tau is missing a vote.

Not sure why Aestrix was offed -- a lot of people had found her vaguely suspicious enough that she could have been a lynch candidate today.


edit to add that we've now seen 3 people who had safe claims, 2 of them (daniel, alpha) had safeclaims with powers and 1 (tau) had safe claim without powers. so i think there is nothing to deduce from what people are claiming their templates are. we can't rule out that people who are claiming to be templates with no powers because of tau.

So we know the mafia includes Voice now. I think it's likely that the rest of it is made up of other downside torturers. Chainsaw is the only other one I can remember appearing in effulgence but somebody might be slipping my mind.

Also, Tau said some pretty town compatible things over the course of the 90-something pages.

i looked through it and they actually seemed to be doing a better than usual[1] job of moving things forward, doing pro-town things, figuring things out, sharing information

So the description of tau in Alicorn's post is a little strange--they're a KILLER, but never explicitly stated to be mafia, when all of the previous posts (I think) have explicitly stated that the dead were Town (or cult). Is it possible Voice was the serial killer alphabeta mentioned? pistachi0n, that would explain your gut feeling, right?

"Killer" seems to be, from all of Alicorn's public posts, the name of the primary scum faction in this game. This would make sense, considering that there is only one organized crime ring in Effulgence that I recall, and I don't think Libby's the type to go on a killing spree, so the killers are not in fact actually mafia, whereas I do in fact reside in a town and am otherwise unremarkable apart from who my second-cousin-in-law-oids are. Unless Voice had affiliations with organized crime when he was alive?

He didn't. He was solitary, very much a loner, didn't like to work with other people.

The thing that bugs me about the serial killer hypothesis is--why are we only seeing one kill a night? Were Voice and the mafia magically picking the same person every time? Did one of the people always happen to be protected? Do they take turns killing every other night?

If there's no kill tonight, then my guess is that Tau was the serial killer Alphabeta was talking about and they take turns killing.

I'm currently most suspicious of jalapeno_dude. Others have pointed out that he seems interested in investigative roles. Also, he has explicitly abstained from voting several times and that makes me think he is trying too hard not to do anything incriminating.

Yeah, in retrospect this bugs me too. I've never played in a game with a serial killer before, but it's super weird that there's consistently been 1 kill per night. If it weren't for Alphabeta, I wouldn't have thought there was serial killer at all. As it is, your "taking turns theory" seems most plausible to me, but it's still not great.
