Note: I haven't read much yetKappa wrote:Ooh. That's a cool setting! :D
I guess that a Bell or a Joker (or even both) could work as someone without the iris, at any rate, it is completely possible that her mental shield was discovered since early age too (just a fun deviation from the norm).
Sorry for my bad english

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
It doesn't look like the setting affords mental shielding... which would be interesting in its own way XD
I am really intrigued by the question of how a Bell would handle living in a world where, although telepathy per se is not a thing, any given person she meets (under the age of 27, if we stick to the source material that closely) might be able to find out any single potentially invasive category-of-thing about her. It might be kindest to give her the power of seeing what other people's powers are, so she knows who to avoid XDDDDD

This website seems to! But I got a pretty good reading of the relevant aspects of canon just by skimming the TV Tropes page.

Unless you want to use the stories' own characters reading it won't add much.Alicorn wrote:Piratebay doesn't have it, alas.
I only in the part where Orfeo imprints on Libby, only two Bellas. It is not a nicely sized sample... you can all change that.Kappa wrote:It doesn't look like the setting affords mental shielding... which would be interesting in its own way XD
Even with a Iris. No defensive power against mental invasion, urgh. She would live alone in a shed.Kappa wrote:I am really intrigued by the question of how a Bell would handle living in a world where, although telepathy per se is not a thing, any given person she meets (under the age of 27, if we stick to the source material that closely) might be able to find out any single potentially invasive category-of-thing about her. I'm reading it (it's mostly pretty cute!) and so far none of the irises that have come up bother her that much; the most distressing candidate is the guy who detects crushes. Since they're strictly visual, as long as she had an idea of where someone saw something she could stand against a wall or turn in a particular direction or something, or just avoid someone whose iris was particularly upsetting to her. I could definitely see her pushing to homeschool or something if there was an upsetting iris among her classmates or if it was as common in her region as in this school in Japan to not be out about the details of one's iris, though.

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
Hmmmm, how about the Black Jewels trilogy? Jaenelle as a Bell, Daemon as a Joker. Not sure who'd fit into Lucivar's place. Saetan as a Kingfisher? but then who'd be the Rayne, Hekatah? o_O
The world would be interesting, I think, but the original story would probably veer sideways pretty quick with a Bell in Jaenelle's place. Then again, Jaenelle's starting situation is probably worse than the vast majority of Bells, so maybe she'd be spending most of her energy on just surviving trauma for the first decade or so.

I feel vaguely like I've heard of the Black Jewels books but I haven't read them, I don't think...
