"Impossibility" might be a possible meaning of the cauldron, but it's not one the alethiometer is using.

Okay.

You said, "describe Jokers". The alethiometer responded, "Jokers" - specifically, Alpha-omega:totality Crucible:essential-nature. The phrase means something like, "The people who are purely and completely themselves". In context, it means something more like "Jokers are Jokers, which is one of their strongest defining characteristics."
