Also I used branching off replies once and I think it's actually easier to implement than limiting it to top posts (at least with the architecture I suggested).

I'm concerned about readability more than implementation, but I guess it'll be more readable to have all the cross-linking handled automatically than if people who really wanted branches-from-replies had to start whole new threads for it....

Threads sometimes also join (most notable example: the assault on Downside). It'd be neat if there was a way to get a flattened reading order out of that (whereas trying to do that yourself as it was arranged there on DW leads to hitting the join point before you've read all the prior material). Of course, authors can also Not Do That.

@Kappa: Well I think it's probably strictly more readable than anything DW does right now, but there could be alternatives I haven't thought of.

@Unbitwise: As far as implementation goes, I suppose that could be handled by having "parent_thread" be "parent_threads" as a list of IDs, and then subthreads would always have links to their parent threads at their top posts maybe?

It would be very nice to be able to rename icons in a gallery en masse, instead of having to individually click through to each one. (I'll often upload a bunch of icons with placeholder tags, and then want to give them useful ones later.) Ideal would be something like an "edit mode" for viewing a gallery, where the current icon names appear in text boxes below the corresponding icons and I can change a bunch of them and then hit save.

@Pedro I think that's... pretty similar to what I already have, actually. Will double check in detail later.

@Moriwen: I'm pretty sure I already have that? Galleries have an edit mode and it has multi icon edit.

Branching from replies was used in Effulgence only in error and should be corrected during import instead of imported as-is. I don't remember a Pedro thread doing it, but there is one old sandbox which does because a group of four splits into two groups of two.
