My question for two was more related to relativity. What does it mean to be traveling at 97% lightspeed? Is that relative to the frame of reference of Valinor, of the ship’s manufacture, of where you punch in destination coordinates, of the destination itself, ...?

Arg when I get a new device I need to remember to be even more vigilant about autocorrect while I get used to the keyboard. “Gone through”.

Species-I-need-to-name are, like, Star Trek Alien amounts of alien (easy makeup, conveniently color coded social problem, slightly-inhuman enough psychology to be quirky but not enough to be hard to empathize with at all) and among their traits are that they normally prefer to have their kids spaced out a bit so the older ones can help with the younger ones. They also live longer than humans but take about the same amount of time to grow up. Without population controls a regular species-name-TBD couple that likes kids a normal amount will have a kid every two local years between the ages of five-or-six and thirteen-or-fourteen. The availability of birth control helps, but not actually as much as with humans - species-name-TBD doesn't have menstruation, they have a fertile period with varying-over-population boundary dates in the spring. Birth control means they can bang then even if this is supposed to be an off year.

"because anime" is a perfectly valid reason for crazy hair colors.

Then until further direction, I will go right back to picturing Gunnerkrigg Court fairies.

The aliens are definitely infuriating. Also very pitiable.
