Some sort of gradient thing? That probably wouldn’t work well. I don’t think there’s a way to do water, air, and earth well while also having the water color being between the earth and air colors. Especially not while leaving reasonable colors available for light, wood, and fire.

I was imaging something like that at first, but then when I suggested colors I realized it might work to just color the lines instead of the faces. That also allows easier color coordination because there are fewer of them.

Imagine a painting with the structure and coloring of Adelene's image with element-relevant stuff in each of the regions.

I made a map!

Nothing has names yet but that's ok.

You may notice that the southern coast looks funny. There used to be more land there, and another continent beyond that. Then some gods had a war. Now there isn't. :D

The empire is tentatively called Eianvar, the language is Eivarne, people and things related to the empire are Eivarni.

The possibly-uninspired part of me notes that there are three mountain ranges and three lakes. ~~obvious thing

If you look real close, there are actually four lakes. I'm probably going to add more geography specifically so that there will be unambiguously more than three of everything.

More map!

Satnasuhai is a desert. Avashid is heavily forested. Hialen is substantially tundra. Dianivae and environs are sort of taiga-ish. The Godscrest Mountains have a lot of magic shit going on.

The Wastelands are largely uninhabitable, like, "bare blasted rock where nothing grows" kind of uninhabitable. And there are monsters in the sea. Do not go to the southern coast. The southern coast will fuck you up.

Things being labeled in conlangs vs in English has a pattern to it: Godscrest, the Lake of Gold, and the Deathly Lake are all named in modern languages because they were named relatively recently. Most of the other regions and geographical features have been around long enough and changed hands enough times that their names are adaptations into dead languages of original names from other, deader languages.

Alicorn,

Could Elspeth be Water by only talking about herself? It seems like talking about non-self could be made secondary. It would still be connected took evidence in the world, but since the only relevant part of the world would be her, it mightn’t count as Light.

What elements would Holly, Crystal, and Book be?

Maggie: What about an EddieEmily hybrid?

If I had to unbalance her that's probably how I'd do it but it's not the natural reading, I think.

Holly and Book and Crystal are all three Air, I think.

~various questions (definitely not related to alting in a Jean shh)~
(as usual I'm sure some of the answers are "idk haven't figured it out yet")

- Did you ever have any insight into the tech level here? Like, medieval-fantasy-generic, earth-standard ...?
- Can Light mages manage long-distance communication somehow? That seems like it would be very helpful for their relationships thing.
- You mentioned Light mages lifting curses and blessings at one point. Does "curses and blessings" here just mean, like, "magical effects done by a mage to another person," or is it something more specific/separate?
- You mentioned the Aral and Cordelia are lesbians; I'm guessing from that (with low confidence) that homosexuality is reasonably socially accepted?
- Is there any kind of religion in this setting? Surrounding the "god" triple-mages?
- How is the merging-into-a-god thing achieved? Like, which kind of mage can merge people, or is there a special ritual or something?
- You mentioned you were thinking about possibly having other non-mage magic; are you still toying with that?
- Can we hear more about making magical artifacts? Is that the sort of thing that only a super-powerful mage can do, or could even your average mage make at least weak artifacts?
- Do you, like, get tired from using a bunch of magic in a row, or can you just keep doing any magic you're capable of for as long as you can stay awake?
- Is a Light mage likely to be able to do better magic effects (healing, enhancements, whatever) on the people that they have their Very Close Relationships to, or is that not so much a thing?
- Jean would like to know if you have any ideas about the theatrical traditions in this world or if he can make it all up himself.
- Any special cultural context/mores wrt adoption?
- Order of magnitude estimate on how rare mages are? (1 in 10, 1 in 100, 1 in 1000 ...)
- Obviously the local Serg and Ges are as nasty as always. What's the popular opinion on them? On the Gregor?
- How much magic is being used to watch out for Potential Dissidents? Jean would like to know how careful he needs to be in planning his Resistance.
- Besides Serg being Serg, any particular charming government decisions for Jean to harbor resentment about? (Censorship? Cultural oppression? Condemning people without trials?)
