I have just texted wolffreak to let her know the game has started. I will need to reread the thread when I have had more sleep in order to try to form reasonable suspicions from what has been said so far.

Nothing anyone has said in the thread seems overtly suspicious so far and since the roles were randomly assigned what's roles Alicorn would want to give people doesn't come into play either. There's very little to go on, I'm tempted to just choose randomly or go for no lynch but I'll think about it more and see if anything else happens before deciding.
Has anyone looked over the short stories to try and figure out what roles might be in play? It probably makes sense to hold off on publicly posting speculation for a while to see if people can come to a consensus on whether list posts can be modified to be useful but that doesn't stop us from trying to figure it out individually (although it seems likely to be harder to work out what's going on then in past games).

Sorry Guys, I just got here so I haven't really been lurking. I don't think anyone is particularly suspicious yet but I will try to post more frequently than I did last time.

I'm still not having any strong suspicions about anything, but I figure I should try and hop on here a couple times this morning before I start my five hour freakin drive home.
The one weird thing I'm noticing is that Shoal seems to really be pushing for productivity in our posts even though I'm not seeing much information to be productive with yet. That seems a little odd to me and makes me think they must have some kind of strong goal they want achieved. Or it's just their playstyle. No one else seems to find it suspicious, so I'm guessing it's the second thing.

For what it's worth, I consider Shoal to be a remote but real possibility. One possible scum disguise would be leader of the Townies, although it's a risky move to take. I'm still thinking about how to determine if it is true or not.
I haven't played Mafia games in years and when I did it was on Civfanatics so a bit different, so take that with a strong grain of salt.

It does seem like Shoal’s playstyle to push productivity.
I am not very good at scumhunting. Last game, I had to choose a townie for night 1. I had narrowed down my choices to two: Alphabeta and Tulip. I’m giving myself points for correctly townreading Alphabeta when most people weren’t, but not very many because Tulip was mafia and should not have made my townie shortlist. Still, if Shoal wants me to scumhunt, I’ll do my best.
The person who has posted the most content is Shoal. Their posts now are a lot closer to their posts last game than to their posts the first game. To some extent, this is probably because they’ve played a lot more mafia between the two. I also don’t remember whether the previous-game posts I’m being reminded of were main thread posts or secret forum posts. If the former, then I will vote Shoal. If the latter, I will start slightly townreading them. I’ll go check on that before end of day.
When I brought up fairies, I was thinking that any fairies would definitely qualify as scum. There have only been three-ish non-scum fairies that were written about (Promise, Secret, and Arcane; I say “ish” because I could be forgetting one), and none of them actually appear in the short stories. This doesn’t mean I’m right that fairies are present, or that they would be scum; it is just speculation.
EDIT: To clarify my Shoal-related reasoning: If they were posting last game like they are now, but only in the scumforum, then they are acting with town-this-game like they did with scum-last-game, and so they are probably town this game like they were scum last. If they posted like this but only on the main thread, they are behaving towards town the same way they did last game, and are probably scum like they were last game.

If I’m still alive towards the end of the game, feel free to be suspicious of me.
I have played this game 8 times now (twice here, 6 times elsewhere). I think that’s why I’m getting a little more out of people’s posts than I would have if this were my first game. I remember being really lost in my first game and not knowing what to do or how to tell what was alignment indicative or not. Having played both alignments before helps (3 times scum, 5 times town) because I can remember what I was trying to do when I was scum and I can see signs that other people are trying to do that thing, and I’ve also had 5 games of other people being scum and seeing how they were caught by other people and the different things they were trying to do. I’m not an expert yet but “I have seen this before” is a great tool in this game.
preview-edit: I think that’s a good way to try to read me, Daniel. My own memories of my own play last game is that I was pretty wishywashy and tentative in public and that I was going with the flow a lot.
When you first brought up fairies, I wasn’t sure if you were hinting that you might be a fairy (in which case it would be pretty strange if you were a scumFairy to start talking about fairies. Last game we were happy that nobody was thinking of Ryngrararv and joined speculation that it was probably Linnip), or something else. I think we should all be very careful with our names, just in case, because in the stories, giving your name to fairies is always terrible (except Secret if that’s the joker one’s name but she wasn’t in a short story as you said)

While it's not outside the limits of possibility, I will be surprised if Shoal isn't town at this point.
My experience with them here compared to last game is very different.
They are much more about practical pushing here when they were more about theory last game.
Some of that could be explained by having more experience, but if Shoal is scum here they are playing it
very differently than they did last game.
That said, the backing off of DanielH smells a bit like an early-day soft bus.(mafia attacking each other to make it look like they aren't working together)
If one of those two turns out to be scum later, we should look at the other more closely.

This looks like a bit like defense of Shoal while avoiding doing it overtly.
"If the former, then I will vote Shoal. If the latter, I will start slightly townreading them."
Those choices don't look symmertical and a scumpartner would be hesitant to call their partner town even when they look it.
On re-read pistachi0ns post here(
http://alicorn.elcenia.com/board/viewto ... =40#p14774) still looks weird to me.
Like she is assuming no daychat and then justifying the assumption.
When the assumption is the exact opposite of what I would assume based of Alicorns previous games, it feels weird to me.
That said, she
could have just aborted the post if she was scum and realized she was implicating herself, so consider the suspicion there lessened some.
I am going to
vote DanielH
because he still seems careful to me, and that is the best I got at the moment.
I dislike pressure votes that are not based on actual suspicion.
It can be misleading later when we do re-reads to find who went after whom.

Can you quote what, exactly, in the post led you to believe I'm assuming no daychat? I was speaking about my experiences as mafia in the last game and why daychat was advantageous to us. I seriously have no idea what you're talking about and it's frustrating me.
Paraphrasing, I said:
-daychat was an advantage for us last game
-it will be an advantage if that have it this game
-we have no way of knowing if they have it or not
-it's something to think about when designing future games
