Is 5th basketday the 5th anniversary of having been basketed or the basketday on which she appears to be 5 years old?

I read it as the latter, since she embaskets at apparently-three and then her fourth and fifth basketdays are mentioned.

That's how I was reading it too, from analogue to 5th birthday, but then i confused myself again :)

"Basketday" here is just a cute substitution for "birthday" and means she is turning Supposedly Five.

Having reached the current endpoint of Plague 2, I wonder how much of one's body must be in Chamomile (or Alethia, etc.) to manifest a daemon.

I don't know, but I'd bet it's exactly the same amount as is needed for the alethiometer to know about you.

I'm finding myself liking Prime even better than garden-variety _dar_s. There's something about being paranoid, bitter, and viciously sarcastic old people that just endears characters to me like nothing else.
