DanielH wrote:“He’s Timothy” isn’t quite enough of an explanation here.

I bet it’s less than a year before Finis knows Church Latin, and if he gets interested in Catholicism less than two before he knows Hebrew.
I'd give at least 50-50 odds he already knows Hebrew. He's probably currently very excited about Sanskrit, given the timing.

At this point, Hebrew was a dead language, primarily used in Muggle religions he knows very little about. He can’t speak every human language and I see no reason he’d have prioritized Hebrew.

He would find Sanskrit interesting, though, yes.

Right, I assume he'd have picked up Hebrew precisely because it was a dead language for comparison to Latin and Ancient Greek.

Also: I am desperately hoping that the reason Miranda just turned down Minor is because this instance of her is gay. I don't at all expect that to be the case--I'm guessing it's really about the Muggleborn thing--but it would be nice for Karen to be happy for once.

Metacausally, Karens don’t get to be happy with the native Bell. If Miranda were gay, Karen would be male. See: Chronicle

Edit: On the other hand, I think Alicorn doesn’t object to special circumstances like with Shell Bell, but it would take a lot of pushing to have the Bell try. There is still hope.

Doesn't Finis already know Latin? Because Church Latin is barely different from Classical -- less than the difference between, like, a Texas and New England dialect of English -- it would take me, like, a week to pick it up from a starting point of knowing classical Latin, I'd expect it to take him more like a day.

Rebecca doesn't know much about classical Latin, just that it's not exactly the same.

Oh, yeah, I was directing that at DanielH not Rebecca, I didn't expect her to know that much about it. :P

That’s what I thought, but I wasn’t sure, so I gave myself a year to be safe.

The word Miranda and Timothy are looking for is probably tribade, which is to tribadism as sodomite is to sodomy. (Though given the biblical origin of the latter term it's surprising to me that wizards apparently entirely uninfluenced by Christianity would use it or even see it as something particularly bad.)

they celebrate Christmas so they're not wholly uninfluenced
