Loki: "Where is your soul creature?"

Darcy: "Oh man, I am so calling Jane that from now on. What's with the outfit?"

Loki: "…What of it?"

Darcy: "I love Thor and all, he makes Jane happy and the girl code is the girl code, but his brother is kind of a skeezy world-conquering maniac and you're totally rocking his outfit?"

Loki: "…Thor, my sister, is a woman."

Darcy: "Okay, is it possible we're talking about different Thors? Because let me tell you, I have seen WAY too much of my Thor to buy that he is secretly hiding girl bits."

Loki: "The name is not otherwise common. Princess of Asgard?"

Darcy: "Well, Prince, but sure, that's Thor. Does this mean you are also a skeezy world-conquering maniac, because dude, I will totally taze you, don't think I won't."

Loki: "I can't say mania has ever appealed."

Darcy: "Hey, I'm with you all the way, but your weird interdimensional twin missed the memo."

Loki: "Well, kindly refrain from tazing me for his poor self-restraint."

Darcy: "I usually go with 'bundle of daddy issues with a lying asshat bow on top' but sure, poor self-restraint, that too. But there has totally not been tazing, see me and the not tazing?"

Loki: "I appreciate that."

Darcy: "You say that, but I think Thor actually appreciated it when I tazed him. Dude's weird."

Loki: "I could see my sister appreciating the audacity, and possibly the choice of weapon."

Darcy: "I'm totally Thor's favorite. Except Jane, obviously, but theirs is a Love Pure and True or whatever. I wield the power of lightning!"

Loki: "Congratulations."

Ace and Vivian

Vivian: "So people just... force animals to fight? As a society?!"

Ace: "…They're Pokémon, I don't know what that word means, and 'force' is kind of a strong word."

Vivian: "But they're not human, right, and they can feel pain, and they fight? Recreationally? That's not illegal?"

Ace: "No? Pokémon fight in the wild, too…"

Vivian: "But humans shouldn't force them to fight more, you're hurting them! It's cruel!"

Ace: "Uh, we can literally only leave town if we have Pokémon with us that know how to fend off wildlife, and it's only safe to leave our houses because any stray wild ones that come into town will soon meet somebody who has their own team and they learn to keep out. I don't think I like the life you're prescribing for… you know… people."

Vivian: "I'm not saying you should be unsafe! But there have to be weapons that aren't other feeling creatures. Or do people just not bother researching those, because hey, you've got Pokémon?"

Ace: "I'm pretty sure getting artillery to shoot down the wildlife would be much crueler than training your own 'mon, and less safely accessible to ten-year-olds."

Vivian: "I'm picturing things like tranquilizer darts, but I am very concerned for your world that your first thought was full artillery."

Ace: "Iiiii don't think you understand how tough Pokémon are. They can be paralyzed or put to sleep, but, you know, this involves using your own 'mon."

Vivian: "But if other- you called them 'mon?- can do it, it must be possible to do it another way somehow. And no one's even looked?"

Ace: "No, nobody's really in the market for ways to manufacture sleep powder when you can just have your 'mon do it? Because it's not cruel to keep 'mon? They like people, at least when the people are nice to them."

Vivian: "...is that relevant? I don't really understand why 'mon liking people means it's okay to let them get hurt."

Ace: "They don't mind! They won't behave for people if they don't like them, but they like trainers who battle them just fine."
Ace: "There's temperamental differences and I'm not saying every lazy gentle Cleffa needs to be turned into a war machine, but plenty of 'mon like battles."

Vivian: "But you have no way to check, right, they could be excited about the fight but still hate pain, or maybe they're so excited to be out and about they don't care about fighting, or something else entirely? Not to mention you have this whole cultural framework of recreational bloodsport that seems to have built off the original survival problem."

Ace: "Look, have you ever actually met a Pokémon in your entire life?"

Vivian: "No, but unless they are magically fighting without pain I don't think that would help. I haven't met giant pandas and I don't want people to capture or injure them, either."

Ace: "Pokémon are not like whatever thing you have back in your world. They are a different thing."

Vivian: "They still feel pain, don't they?"

Ace: "Yeah, and so do marathon runners, what's your point?"

Vivian: "Marathon runners can talk! You're taking advantage of the 'mon."

Ace: "If you think 'mon can't make it known when they are or are not happy then I reiterate you've never met one in your life."

Vivian: "So introduce me?"

Ace: *releases Zag*

Vivian: *becomes embarrassingly distracted by the cute and fluffy*

Zag: *preens*

Ace: "Sure, I guess, but be advised that there are... stories, about cloning Pokémon outright not going well, winding up with weird more powerful less friendly results."

Linya: "I'm not planning to make live copies, but thanks for the warning."

Ace: "Why sample me, anyway?"

Linya: "Well, for one thing, the ability to handle the Pokémon - especially given that it varies person to person and tops out at six - sounds like a capacity humans I'm used to might just not have, and for another thing you have psychics."

Ace: "I'm immune to human-grade psychics, but yeah."

Linya: "I might be able to bottle that."

Ace: "Take whatever you need."

Oh, yeah, telepathy exists in canon Vorkosigan verse, doesn’t it?

It does in canon, but we eliminated it for the glowfic version because it didn't seem to... fit.
