Wouldn’t Aether and Phoenix work better for that?

Oh, I see I mixed some things up. I thought Miranda and Phoenix were identical-modulo-the-particular-story, not just alts. Please consider the above request to be revised to whichever is more actually interesting.

Phoenix is a muggleborn who goes to school in America; Miranda is a halfblood who goes to Hogwarts. Also Phoenix is a Kristen Stewart and Miranda is black, but that's way less important.

Aether: "So you have always been magic, technically, but you didn't know magic was real?"

Phoenix: "I think it's weirder that you have an aura of science working."
