@Marri - hm! I'm uh, not going to spoiler because it would be like my whole post and I'm not sure what benefit anyone would get from it. Aliya as Ariani works realllly well, and a Zevi would make a scary-ass Brother. I like those castings a lot. But I'm not sure about Adarin as Tobin. It could work, depending on how he deals with gender problems. I never really noticed that Jokers and Adarins have the whole "we are defining your identity for you to suit our purposes and ideas about what you should do with your life" setup in common. I'm even less sure about Veron as the duke because a) not adoptive father iirc? b) Veron would be a way better dad than I remember the duke being. It's been a few years since I read, so I don't remember creepy wizard dude, but probably if there is a creepy wizard dude then he would work as a Nereus.

The duke is not their adoptive father, it's true but he has the whole "trying to be a good dad to his motherless twin(s) and tragically, madly in love with the crazy mom lady who wasn't terribly into him" vibe going. He wasn't as successful at good-dadding as Verons are, but he's certainly a hell of a lot better than the twins' normal birth father.

Nereus would make a pretty reasonable either evil King or aforementioned creepy wizard dude (who was the king's advisor and mage and the one who started all the wizard huntings and trials and stuff.)

Adarins often have people defining his identity and expecting Rulery Things out of him. See: Get Married Rule Country, Find Mage Have Babies, etc.

May Bird? (Super-quick summary: young girl and cat accidentally stumble into the afterlife while still alive, discover that they are unable to get back home, and end up on the lam due to the realm's terrifying dictator who can turn people into nothingness and has outlawed both the living and animals.)

A Bell could easily take May's place (with Cricket filling in for Somber Kitty, since everything important involving Somber Kitty has to do with his felinity, iirc), and I imagine a Joker would fit right in among the luminous boys or in Nine Knaves' Grotto (or, come to think of it, as Bell's house spirit, though I keep imagining this with Lazarus in that position for reasons I don't remotely understand).

Alternatively, I'm sure even a Bell who got to the afterlife via a more traditional route would take issue with its management. (See above: terrifying dictator.)

Where might I find May Bird to consume?

Sandbox premise: a new wormhole opens up from Barrayar to any given round-planetting non-Earth-containing world. Isatei, maybe. Or if it goes to Barashi, then the thing could be called Barbarians, because pun.

I need to read this. Too bad Respendence is slower than any two-person RP, and there is no reasonable way to do Kystle without Aestrix or Barrayar without both Alicorn and Kappa, and wormholes are traversable enough that both planets would be used.

Is there a (non-spoilery, because this isn’t Spoileland) reason the current Mark/Ivan storyline isn’t Effulgence canon? It doesn’t contradict anything already existing, although I suppose it might interfere with future plans.

Also, there’s a separate thread for sandbox ideas.

We've considered canonizing the Mark/Ivan sandbox. It might make the timeline and/or some character motivations in the next plot arc awkward, but it's not impossible that we'll decide to do it.
