I'm fairly sure I don't. The closest thing I have to a reason is revenge for the recent Sunday plot, and if you were dead you'd never be able to resolve it.

What do dead characters do if there aren't any players who've had to leave?

You could become an observer and learn secrets which you would have to carefully not tell any alive people, if you liked.

Of course, this would interfere with your ability to take over for any vanished players.

Also, in-thread it was claimed (by a player) that we aren’t allowed to quote from the initial PM. Is this actually true?

I don't see any reason you couldn't quote your PM, publicly, if you so chose.

It is traditional to forbid it, so that the host doesn't have to worry about patterns in the wording of their PMs that could provide strong evidence of what team a person is on (and thus lead to degenerate gameplay).
