Interesting. Are you willing to specify further how you think it would go badly? I had been guessing that the reason we hadn’t seen a Bell meet HJPEV was that Eliezer just didn’t want to do any RPing, I imagine he could see it as too much of a time‐sink, but the quoted message seems to suggest something different.
I overlooked because it sounded possible personal, on hindsight it might be less so (like, HJPEV might just have several "Cat moments" on a roll)

Eliezer might also not want to do any RPing, but I said it would turn out badly because I suspect that many of his authoring habits would dovetail very poorly with mine. Specifically I feel like he gets a lot of his characterization out of ensuring that the characters around that one react in exactly the ways he prescribes, and incorporating someone else's characters and having to secure advance agreement about those reactions in order to get them would sit badly. I don't have any objection to cat moments; Benedict's character Max is made almost entirely of cat moments and I'm sandboxing with him.

Ah, that doesn't sound good for a RPing.

my favorite is "you gave me a time machine to treat my sleep disorder!?!"

Also, nice that you are going to RPing with Benedict.

Anyway, back to suggesting setting/fandoms for Effulgence

Midsummer Nights dream.
Mind control! Crazy non-consensual romance! Most fucked way for a Bell to end up with her SO ever?
My favorite Shakespeare play for a Bell.

Tempest.
A whole play about giving up magic? Really?
Alternatively a place for a Joker-childhood as a spirit bound by a father-figure?

My favorite thing about using non-original worlds in Effulgence is seeing Bells trashing the originals :)

Yup, and possible the Bell befriending the Joker, I actually don't remember the play in that much detail, only enough that the premise seems to fit well for pealing.

Also, this is probably against not that interesting for Alicorn, but what about a Gilderoy Lockhart template, with at least one example where the lockart uses Milliways to gather stories (real of fictional) from other worlds and then sells them in his own reality?

Thinking of scifi series I read as a kid - has anyone else read the Mindwarp series by Chris Archer? It could be fun to put a Bell in. It's actually probably more suited for Incandescence than Effulgence, based on power level, with one exception that I'm not sure how to account for (Toni's ability to time travel). Pretty much any of the other powers the characters manifest could be tweaked without majorly screwing up the storyline, but that one is plot-vital and also the most potentially imbalancing. Possibly it could be resolved through the ambiguous potential depowering they go through at the end of the series but that kinda removes a lot of the fun of pealing.
Template ideas with some Mindwarp spoilers if anyone cares
In an Effulged Mindwarp, I'd give Ashley's powers to the Joker (Jokers would appreciate the regen and the possibility of forking, I think), Toni's power to the Bell (mostly for Plot Importance), Jack's power to a Rayne (purely because his name is Jack Raynes :P), Todd's power to a Kingfisher (mostly to fuck with the Rayne), Elena's power to a Libby (I donno, it just fits her best), and Ethan's power to.... hm. maybe an Olympian? Alternately, Toni's power to a Tony (name AND lightning!), Ethan or Todd's power to a Sherlock (Sherlocks are Good at Fighting, but the 'perfect info recording' probably fits them better, plus a Sherlock with perfect playback of their recordings would be a terror), and Ashley's power to a Bell.

In an Incandescenced Mindwarp, I'd give Ethan's power to the Zev (Zevs are pretty well suited to general You Are Awesome At Fighting Now), probably Ashley's powers to the Bell (I think she'd appreciate the functional immortality if not the possibility of forking), Elena's power possibly to the Adarin (out of the options, he's probably most suited to astral projection, telepathy, and minor clairvoyance?), Toni's power maybe to a Soph (mostly for light-theme reasons), Jack's power would be appropriate for an Elspeth but they don't come in the same age cohort as Bells, so maybe an Edward? Todd's power... maybe Idania? I donno.

I think I might have either read some of this series or heard really thorough plot synopses, because it sounds very familiar, but I definitely didn't like whatever I encountered enough to read all of the books.

Hm, oh well. I was about as into them as I was into Animorphs, back when. I'm curious how much you read, if you did. The series is only 10 books long, and they're all pretty short since they're targeted at kids (it looks like each one is about 140 pages), so it wouldn't have taken much effort for you to have read the whole series, if it was all out when you encountered it. (Unfortunately, there are no ebooks, so reading it now would be a hassle and only worth it if you were actively interested in it, which it sounds like you aren't.) How much of the plot do you recall - was it mostly "here is new character X, watch as they discover their powers"? or do you also remember stuff from the "now that Our Heroes have gathered, watch as they go on Adventure" part?
