(Ran across this while rereading.) That sounds like it'd rule out even basic instincts, potentially even Yavanna's trees. We know the Valar were engaged in acts of sub-creation including the animals, but maybe Eru collaborated more than the Valaquenta explicitly says?

Timothy, really, what do you think you’re doing? You edited the story a bit, but not nearly enough. I get it that you need to defend Cam but honestly these are investigative reporters and could learn the truth.
