About how much pain are orcs habitually in? I am in particular wondering in comparison to esu but wishcoins are probably an easier unit to communicate with.

I read Feanor's questions about plain speak and Sadde now wants to be science buddies with him

(And also to make out with him but I expect that would be much harder to accomplish)

Fëanor is a great nerd.

Also I said this on IRC but I'm saying it again here for non-IRC people, somebody should introduce the entire House of Fëanor to the concept of self-care. Especially Maedhros/Maitimo/He Of Many Nicknames.

If you had not specified two of the names, He Of Many Nicknames would not be very distinguishing. Seriously, how many names do they each have?

Also, can Eru cause a feeling in said person which he can know for sure would not have been causable by Sauron? He thinks that he is either again or still in a hallucination ever since Promise started ordering around Eru, so Sauron’s word on the subject is not very trustworthy. Before Melkor was thrown into a black hole, he could have at least learned when Melkor was destroyed by swearing an oath about him; I assume the feeling of the oath losing a referent could not be faked, but I don’t know if he can use it now that Melkor is gone.

Eru released the Feanorians from their Silmaril-related Oath, iirc, and that should theoretically be unfakeable.

*points to portalbold/smol hyper elf thread* ^^

(We should maybe sic a kobold on Maitimo, too, but I don't see as much of an opening for that and anyway I shouldn't try to have more than two threads at once.)

Regarding Sauron's ability to fake oaths: what exactly are the limitations on that? Maedhros seems to think that if none of the stuff happening to him is real, Sauron could falsely swear that it was; but he also seems to think if it IS real, then Sauron's oaths can be relied on, at least to the letter of what he says. Is that an accurate impression I'm getting? Is it the case that:

A) Sauron can in the general case project a hallucination of him doing stuff, including swearing oaths, so (e.g.) Lokibel shouldn't have believed any of the things he swore when he was bargaining for Maedhros; or

B) If Sauron is generating your whole reality (e.g., if you're a prisoner in Angband), that reality can include fake oaths, but under normal circumstances he can't fake an oath; or

C) something else entirely?

B, I think.

I think that A is also true but if he projects an illusion of him swearing an oath without generating your whole reality that counts as him actually swearing it?

And Melkor is a Vala and could presumably destroy the Silmarils if he wanted (or give them back, removing the referent of the oath to anybody keeping them), but that’s at least an indication that something unusual is going on.
