You could probably put it as minds requiring things that are in some sense in motion? Like on a molecular level or something? I'm not sure that's quite true, or that if it was it'd only affect that, but it doesn't seem completely implausible.

That isn't true with chip minds though. The minds are inactive without bodies.

Not to mention that the bodies of basement-dwellers are otherwise functional, so their hindbrains are presumably working to process breathing and heartbeats and whatnot.

recent interaction between Cycle and daeva has made me wonder; do naturally appearing daeva have bellybuttons?

They do. It's weird.

Do they sometimes appear with other very common nongenetic things, like circumcision or pierced ears?

How about things like six-fingered hands?

Throne wanted to know more about Daevinity to properly make Angel Theo and I asked Alicorn lots of questions and they're here:

pedro:
do natural daeva appear knowing anything a priori, and if so, what?

alicorn:
They can move around and use their powers as occurs to them. Otherwise no.

pedro:
do they appear naked or with random clothes?

alicorn:
Naked.

pedro:
no languages either?

alicorn:
Nope

pedro:
nod
how much detail knowledge do angels need to self-alter?

alicorn:
correctly on the first try, you mean?

pedro:
mmhm
like i think it was mentioned that an angel needs to know a lot, technically, to transition someone

alicorn:
yes. however, that's a human patient, it's easier on a daeva because they can heal anything that's not right.

pedro:
nod
what's heaven like? are there relevant features like the tacky plane of gold and stuff?

alicorn:
heaven is natively infinite glowycloudfluff forever in all directions. angels live in what amount to cloudfluff caves, some v large.
and put whatever in those caves.

pedro:
do daeva all heal? how fast if so?

alicorn:
daeva - and limboites - all heal any damage they're not trying to keep
and very fast, within seconds.

pedro:
can they regenerate if they try?

alicorn:
What do you mean?

pedro:
like, suppose cam interpolates his wings off his body; could he then get them back not by creating them but just by "healing" them?

alicorn:
Oh. hm. good question.
yeah, I guess so.

pedro:
nod
what are the limits of healing, then? presumably daeva can't just decide that their "healed self" looks like a frost giant, so is it "to some intact state they previously occupied" or?

alicorn:
hm, intact state they recently occupied and are *injured* relative to
if he lets the lack-of-wings heal he can't heal them back, he has to remake them

pedro:
nodnod
Is there any pattern to where daeva start? And can they start in "private" places like inside houses and stuff, or in terrible places like underground?

alicorn:
They are near other daeva and not embedded in matter.
they can appear in houses.

pedro:
do natural daeva know instinctively what the summon tug means?

alicorn:
No.
