Every time I see Gem's username I think of the song from Newsies.

Okay, now I’m wondering if that’s really Solvei there. Some things she’s said made me suspect it’s somebody good at imitating her.

I have not finished what’s been written of zero yet, but the more I read the more I get convinced that it is not actually Solvei.

Since Incandescence is dead, I've only recently bothered to read some of the unpealed incandescence threads. So I hadn't previously encountered Kayam. So I hadn't realized Karen from Lumos was a Kanim. So looking at those two and how Kanim asked Glass out before she told him she was gay and presumably Cymbeline is straight--do Kanims have an attractor for crushing on Bells of incompatible sexualities?

i don't remember where I've mentioned it either but it's totally a thing. Kanims appear when there are Bells they can be friends with, such that they can both practice magic but specialize differently, and such that the Kanim can fall for the Bell and the Bell can be unable to reciprocate for sexuality reasons. Cymbeline has one (straight boy Bell, boy Kanim), Glass has one (gay girl Bell, boy Kanim), Shara and Silverlight have them (straight girl Bells, girl Kanims).
