They need a less rigorous standard of touch; whitemages can work through clothes and redmages can't.

Do bluemages lose theory of mind in general or only the ability to think of themselves as people?
Is there a point where blue or red mages have dwindled completely and no longer can lose any more? It seems like there would be. At that point are they able to see/touch people cost-free?

I presume a very dwindled redmage would be at minimum hard to take care off? Plus his beloved tend to care (or develop something on the area of caring) and might not like the idea of seeing their redmages as a barely responsive lump?

In general.
They have that point; blues are sometimes worked to it intentionally, reds aren't, but in either case they can still do magic after that (the redmages in this state are almost completely helpless and not even very good at their jobs anymore, though).
