Writing can do Change The Future stuff, while casting can't. Writing leans harder on the #aesthetic aspects of tarot; what you're doing is something like creating a narrative that fits the symbolism and aesthetic of the cards you draw. Casting is more like typical spell-casting; it's better for specific direct actions.

If you want to set something on blue fire, use casting. If you want to help someone find the essential goodness in their heart and use it to overcome their fears, use writing.

I like this thing, particularly the "mundane mystical artifacts" part.

Is the "magical energy" a plain old "you have this much capacity and this much regeneration" sort of thing? Can you save it up for big things on a long time scale?
