I think as town it doesn’t matter as much, though if the day is ending before you wake up and you just vote and go to bed then that’s annoying because the person might claim and you might not be able to retract it. Better to get the votes in early with minimum deadline scrambling. but that’s voting.

if someone manages to post while drunk/stoned/overtired and doesn’t scumslip that should be noted. though it can be faked of course. you can post with lots of typoes and claim to be drunk while sober after all.

I drunkposted a little on the other site in my scumgame but my posts were only tangentially related to the topic so that wasn’t very towny of me.

since our days are fixed length, we don’t have to worry about a single vote ending the day early so we don’t have to worry about looking at the votecount and then counting before voting; on the other site in one of my games I miscounted because it was late at night and I accidentally lynched the other power role (I was a town power role too) and it was really embarassing. but that problem won’t happen here at least.

This post is mainly me indicating that I’m here and not inactive.

It’s highly unfortunate that the listposts apparently turned out to be more useful for scum than for town in the last game. I remain optimistic that a solution to that can be found, though I have no solid ideas on what that solution could be.

@Shoal, in the first game I did know why people thought I was suspicious. I was picked by the rng, without having made an encrypted role claim, flailed around in panic and claimed to eventually be useful, then made an encrypted post when I got home but messed up the cryptography and so it looked like I was intentionally avoiding revealing my role, or incompetent enough to be useless to town. So it was upsetting because I was chosen by chance and then messed everything up for myself and thought I was going to die on the first day.

I like the actual original purpose of the suspicion posts, to figure out who was suspicious to you before other people change your mind, which I think was sometimes helpful. Using them to find out who most people found suspicious maybe didn't work so well.

being chosen by chance is pretty awful, yeah. i’m glad that doesn’t happen anymore.

I think we can still get the original benefit of the suspicions posts, the personal benefit of taking time to figure out your own thoughts and what thoughts are your thoughts and not somebody elses, by rereading the thread during the night phase and making your own private notes. maybe even noting down things like “when x posts, it makes me feel more like y is town” and then try to figure out what that means about x and y. Other people’s suspicions posts should be taken with a grain of salt, but you can still use the technique to figure out what you think, and figure out why you think it, and then come into the thread in the morning and try to convince people that you’re right.

Hello all :)
I'm also here and not overly inactive. I am in Loviisa again so my internet-time is limited. I should be back home sunday evening.

Here's my thoughts so far:

-I was iffy about DanielH being careful at first, but going into theory discussion right after being scumread convinced me.
It's not necessarily a scumtell, but I'd say he is more likely to be scum than average.

-Shoal being open about their scum-experience last game makes them look towny now.

-Pistachi0n seems to know that scum doesn't have daytalk here. How do you know this pistachi0n?
vote pistachi0n

-MTC being optimistic about listposts is in character for him, but it's still a scummy stance to take in my books.
I did have an idea about doing listposts without putting any names in them and first power that would suit the revealed name would be the correct one. No plausible power would mean 'no power' or 'I don't wish to tell you' *
I mentioned this idea to MTC in demon-chat. Him not makin a mention about it is slightly scummy.

*)I now think even this is insecure. Many sorts of powers could be ruled out by mafia from it. So don't go thinking it's a good idea.

I think sharing info about powers was way over-valued last game.
It's pretty much never a good idea to tell scum you can survive a nightkill for example, even if you are otherwise claiming for some reason.
People should think about if each bit of info will help town more than scum before they choose to share anything (about powers).

I think posting after midnight or under influence can be fine as long as you are clear about doing so.*
I pretty much always think posting is better than not posting as town.

*)Posting after midnight may cause you to stay up until 5am thou, which is fine for the purposes of the game, but may not be a wise thing to do if you wish to live a healthy, happy life.

I said, and I quote: "but for now we have no way of knowing how much power the scum has and when they can talk" in this post.

I did not say the scum don't have daytalk. I said that we have no way of knowing whether or not they have daytalk, but that it was an advantage last game when I was in the mafia. Please go back and read my post more carefully.

Edited because I made a grammatical error.

I don't really have much commentary to add to this strategy discussion yet - I don't really see why posting after midnight is a concern and I'm certainly not getting any strong scumfeels about anyone so soon - but I realized a countdown hadn't been posted and those are handy, so:

I think that should end at the correct time!

I mentioned my thing about posting after midnight because I often have a problem about posting when overtired, this could be worse in the game, and I had just posted at almost-1-am. I didn’t mean for my meaning to be opaque. Of course, since I was disregarding my own advice while posting it, I shouldn’t have been surprised.

I do feel that even if the idea of listposts might be salvageable in general, they might be especially dangerous for this game. I would be a bit surprised if there were no fairies in the game.

Given that they can't be killed, what does it mean to lynch a fairy? (I've been trying to say townkill instead of lynch but it doesn't really work here. Anyone have a better suggestion?) Aziel-style "fucked off back to Fairyland?"

They can be put out of commission temporarily. Previous games involved Town beating people to a pulp; I doubt a fairy could recover from that in the duration of the game. Or maybe I was wrong about there being some.

There are actually a lot of things in the short stories which are difficult to kill. A quick skim through the index said that it was slightly over half the stories, but I could misremember some of them and I was double-counting the stories with shared continuities. I doubt any of them will exactly reproduce the dragon use mechanic, though I’m not sure what will happen.

Can all our in-game problems be solved by the clever application of murder or attempted murder, and will this answer hold as long as there are enough of us left regardless of which ones those are? Alternatives would be needing to leave certain specific people alive or needing to take care of some problems in non-murderous ways.
