Jasmine from Angel is not planned to appear.
I am unlikely to buy this game on the strength of one recommendation and a cute-sounding premise, since I don't like most video games.

I might or might not have this intense liking for the idea that Jasmine and her alts become an evil counterpart for the Bells, including calling their group by a name (Garden) >.>Alicorn wrote:Jasmine from Angel is not planned to appear.
Purely out of curiosity (and please dont feel pressured to answer), but what kind of video games you do like?Alicorn wrote:I am unlikely to buy this game on the strength of one recommendation and a cute-sounding premise, since I don't like most video games.
----
So, there is this post around tumblr about the idea that maybe dragons are princesses that turned into dragons to escape and when a dragon "kidnaps" a princess, they are actually taking an aprentice of sorts.
....So what about this premise with the following extra information and magic system:
Legend says that the royal families from the continent are all descedant of a powerful warrior that killed the Mother-of-All-Dragons and became the First Great King who bathed in the Mother's blood and gained near-invulnerability except for a small patch in his back that was covered by a leaf¹. Regardless of truth, the royals and close relatives all have a degree of magical protection with a vulnerable spot, they can also use this power to heal themselves but that temporarily increases the weakpoint's size.
What isn't know, is that this magical protection is only part of a great degree of power with guidance one can awake the "inner dragon", gaining full Dragonmage² powers
Dragonmage powers include:
*Dragonsight: Ability to see/sense dragon magic, which allow see the dragon scale aura (see bellow). Royal-blooded have a intuitive ability to sense this, but it is weaker and vaguer.
*Grow magical dragon wings, they are capable of flight and magically adjust through clothing, but require learning to use them.
*Full Dragon Scale Aura, this is the protection that all Royals have, but it is fully realized in Dragonmages. With Dragonsight one will see something like a "second skin" covering the person with scales. The weakspot(s) aren't covered with scales.
**It will protect agains fire and will absorb a great deal of physical damage/impact
**Parts covered by the aura will heal without scarring and will eventually regenerate lost limbs. The aura doesn't change shape if the person is currently missing a limb
*Dragon magic:
**Dragonmagic works by trading scales for "spells", opening or enlargings weakpoints. The scales grow back, but it takes longer depending on the strenght the spell where they are spent. I don't quite have a sense of balance yet, but I was thinking that when compared with wishcoins, a triangle-effect would take a few days, a square takes a roughly a month and so on. There is more room for variation (two effects that would require a square could make the scale regrow anywhere between 4-30 days). You can spend multiple scales and a single scale has the top "price" of one year.
**Dragonmagic works mostly by transforming stuff, and can't outright create anything (it can transform air, but it is more expensive), it can't directly put information in your brain, but it can give you the information in some form/medium (a book, a map), it can create energy and move matter as well.
**The more holes you have, the more likely are you to engange in "vices", you know, traditional dragon stuff of hoarding and burning down villages.
¹This is from nordic myth or something.
²Also accept Dragonwitch or just Dragon

I think this thread should ideally be more about suggesting existing media that we could Effulge, not coming up with novel settings. Surely there is a better place for your setting ideas than in someone else's project?

I am sorry, my mind likes to spawn these kind of plot bunnies without any place to direct it >.>Alicorn wrote:I think this thread should ideally be more about suggesting existing media that we could Effulge, not coming up with novel settings. Like, I literally thought about this today and just now wrote what you saw xP
...And I don't really have much of an attachment to them? At least this particular one? Like I said, my mind will create them and all, plus the basic premise came from some place else (I suppose it doesn't need to be about dragon princesses, but still). I probably should try gathering a writing group around here or something >.>

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
I also think that this thread should be for suggesting existing media which could be Effulged, but I think that worldbuilding is fun and I am very into helping other people create settings for their writing, so maybe there should be a thread for creating worlds that others can use as settings if one of them catches their fancy?
Also I think the dragon princess setting is a really neat idea and would like to see it expanded upon.
Also also I have a non-Steam copy of Long Live the Queen that I would be willing to distribute iff the person I distributed it to agreed to actually buy a copy if they enjoyed it. It is made by an indie developer and I wish to support the making of games like LLTQ.
Also also also I think that Alicorn does not like watching videos? But Youtube has a bunch of Long Live the Queen Let's Plays if there are people who do not wish to play the game but want to see it played. It is a cute game and fun.
Also also also also I brought up the Diadem series before but I am going to quote some of it now anyway in hopes of catching Kappa's attention:

Book of Names, Chapter 1 wrote:Score was scared. It was the one emotion he knew really well. He'd lived with it for most of his short life. He reckoned he must have been born scared, because he couldn't ever recall spending a single day when he wasn't afraid.
It had been his father, mostly, who had scared Score.

Well that person sure looks like a Steven. I forget anything else I might ever have known about the canon.

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
Diadem a children's fantasy series about three twelve year olds from different planets (which more-or-less map to modern-day earth, feudal/medieval fantasy earth, and futuristic/cyberpunk dystopia earth) who discover they have magic powers and then go on a world-hopping journey to the center of the Diadem, their multiverse, which is arranged in concentric 'rings' of increasing magicalness. The center of the multiverse is called Jewel and it's the most magical place, while the three kids come from worlds on the Outer Rim, where there is next to no magical at all. As they journey into regions which permit more magic, it becomes evident that all three are Extremely Magical and they have a Shared Destiny. They each have particular magical talents which are the ones that manage to surface on their otherwise magically-dead homeworlds - Score is good at transmutation, Helaine has a sort of trouble-sense, and Pixel has magically enhanced problem-solving abilities - but they gain other abilities in their travels, primarily through the acquisition of magic-amplifying gemstones. Eventually, they learn that they are more-or-less the reincarnations of the ousted evil tyrannical despots who ruled the Diadem from Jewel and have to face down the new evil tyrannical despot who overthrew their previous selves.. After that, they pretty much just go around exploring the Diadem, finding problems, and solving them, but I haven't actually read beyond book 6, and only really remember the first three or four books (and even then I probably only-kinda-remember them, since I read them back in 3rd grade or so).
Score's intro does sound Steven-ish! But I think Score is in many ways like a very early-phase Joker - his intro reminds me of when the peal discovered Felicity. A list of some ways in which Score is Jokerish: native to NYC, abusive father, background-terror during early development due to said, goes by chosen name instead of given name, odd sense of humor and a tendency to seem flippant, goes 'wandering' after escaping his father, and his magic first appears when he cheats at a card game by transmuting the cards. I feel like Score's situation could be easily made to produce a Joker and a Joker could easily slot into Score's role in the story.
Both Helaine and Pixel have Bellish properties, but since Helaine is the cross-dressing warrior woman and Pixel is the physically inept intellectual, the Bell might slot more easily into the Pixel role. Plus, the particulars of Pixel's homeworld seem to be more interesting for a Bell - he's from a world where people spend most of their time playing virtual reality games, having all their physical needs catered to by robots, and never leaving their houses. Fairly early in the books, it is revealed that all of the luxury they enjoy is the product of slave labor camps, which I think would be more interesting for a Bell to try to fix than generic patriarchal medieval feudalism problems. Or, since he way the canon works, it would work just as well to create a whole Outer-Rim world for someone to be from as it would to slot someone into a pre-existing character slot, Helaine and Pixel could have their roles merged and be replaced by someone from a new world created wholesale.
ETA: come to think of it, if Alicorn is not interested in Belling Diadem, Helaine and Pixel could be fairly well replaced with a Zevi and an Adarin, respectively, if their siblinghood could be wrangled somehow (separated at birth?)? But not having seen a Joker interact with a Zevi and an Adarin yet, I can't say if that dynamic would work as well as a Joker-Bell dynamic would work in the setting, so I can't recommend it as wholeheartedly for a Pixiethread as I do for an Effulgence one.

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
Nifty. Yeah, Score does sound like a Joker when put that way. (NB: Not all of the Jokers have the specific Fear Thing early on - the B cluster in particular has a lot of it, but some of the others have less.)
edit: Lizard Pants contains information on how a Joker might interact with an Adarin. A future Pixiethread contains information on how a Joker might interact with a Zevi XD

Noted; I was aware of this but forgot to specify B cluster Jokers.
I'll check out Lizard Pants and anticipate the future Pixiethread!
