oh, hell. Let me send hugs to the counter-factual Rae.

While I am here....

I had an idea for an Acolyte Power (because working on my own settings is too much like productivity! :D). Essentially there is a collective pool of knowledge that anyone with the power can access, they can deposit knowledge to it, or just access it, thus they can be the master of 30 different skills learned. That works for an acolyte power? or is too weak?

What knowledge are we talking about here? Knowledge of how to use something specifically? Understanding of calculus and how nuclear physics works? Because if it's literally any skill that any acolyte ever had, martial or mental or how to bake the perfect pastries...

Ennh. Too powerful. Narrow it a bit.

I think there's a difference between a knowledge and a skill. You can know that X is the perfect way to throw a punch, but that doesn't give you the muscle memory to reliably use it, and you can know that Y is the recipe for this cake, but that doesn't give you the intuition to mix up the ingredients just right the way the original chef could.

Would people be able to add false “knowledge” to this pool? Presumably if they truly believed it they could (otherwise it’s much more too powerful in that it can be used to divine arbitrary truths), but could an acolyte who wished to cause problems lie to the pool of knowledge?

Could it hold things besides facts (becoming a sort of private Internet)?

A thought-wikipedia would be much more reasonable than automatic skill sharing, I think.

The way I was seeing it is a bit closer to "sharing skills", a combat skill would give you some ability to replicate the forms/movements making it easier to fight, but muscle memory is more acquired (not to mention stuff like alertness).

"knowledge" here means what the person knows/believes/thinks and those can be false. Unless another separate magic is involved there is no way to figure out if the information is false. The way I picturing it, imparting false information should be hard, but not impossible.

Sort of? Anyone with the power will have access to all knowledge in the "network" and technically speaking "I think that Acolyte Bob should ask me on a date" is a fact/thought that could be shared, assuming you have no problem with all the other acolytes being able to access the information. The particular god would be glad to send the message instead.

Yeah, that sounds good, and maybe coupled with a "improved learning" blessing. So it is like having a multi-sensory library in your head.

@Aestrix, that sounds doable?

Rockeye's idea sounds doable, yes. Automatic skill sharing is still a no, however.

The mental wikipedia sounds great, don't worry.

For the sake of science "skill sharing" that involves "taking/returning" from a pool of knowledge sounds balanced enough (such that if a Acolyte dies all skill he is using go with him)?

Now I am a mood.

How about the ability to Transfer Harm through touch (both by absorbing harm or giving to someone)?

Transfer harm sounds like a doable acolyte power, if it only works by touch.

That being said, I would really rather this thread didn't become 'Aestrix please check various hypothetical acolyte powers.'

Touch only, add range and actually stops being fun. Thanks.

Sorry. I shall stop. Generally is there anything in particular you want from this thread?

Can I give this Link as a offering to Rae? :)
