Can the biokinesis do shapeshifting? 'Cause you mentioned Wood gets biokinesis and Earth gets shapeshifting and I'm pretty sure if anyone's Wood it's Sadde but they also really really like shapeshifting.

Would electricity be more of a Fire thing or more of a Light thing? Also, once you get your element is that completely fixed for the rest of your life? Could it change if you underwent a big enough change in personality?

1. Welcome!

2. Judging by the JokerSherlock running a Miles mentioned in the first post, I would expect a change in personality can come with a change in element, but maybe it matters that all the relevant personalities existed already by the time they became a mage?

Okay, let me try again regarding the division of powers...

Every element gets a [thing]kinesis power that is its very own basic power. Every mage of that element gets that basic power. Earth mages get geokinesis, Wood mages get biokinesis, Light mages get light manipulation. Combination mages do not get the basic powers of the parent elements; Wood mages are not geokinetic or light-manipulating. Gods get every basic power.

Every element also gets a pool of possible magical talents/specializations, such as shapeshifting for Earth, clairvoyance for Light, that sort of thing. Those do inherit from parent elements to combinations. Wood mages can potentially shapeshift; Fire mages can potentially heal. No one - not even gods - ever gets literally every single possible talent in their available pools, but gods do get a lot, and regular mages get a bunch.

If your personality changes such that your elemental alignment is different, then yes, your elemental alignment might change. This is probably pretty rare, and people might not know it's possible, but it can theoretically happen.

(An Aaron could totally become a god 'by themselves' if they figured out that they can create personalities and then figured out how to create personalities of the right kinds.)

Sadde is a happy Wood then.
Laura is Air, Tobias is Light, Willow is Light, Chell is Air or possibly Water, Light is Earth, Ning/Rewind is Earth, Norma is Light or Fire.

Do people in this setting go around identifying with elements even if they are nonmagical, the way people in Quinn do?

Pondering history. I think this might be one of those Dark Timeline worlds where Serg kills Ezar and takes over his kingdom/empire/planet. (See also: Imbria.)

For some reason Aral and Cordelia are telling me they're lesbians. That's cool, guys. I guess that means that giving same-sex couples children is a thing Wood mages can do.

Not sure of cosmology. I think I might be boring and go with "it's, you know, a planet, the round kind".

Also not sure of magic besides the kind mages have. There might be some, but I'd want to figure out what it is and how it works.

For reasons, I want the Ges to have had some kind of magical leash on the Mark, something for controlling her. But I know there are some kinds of mind control I definitely don't want this world to have (emotional manipulation, changing what or how someone thinks). So maybe it could just selectively cut off her access to her senses, her body, and her magic. That's cool right? Cool.

I actually don't think Ges had telepathy. Ges is somewhat interested in what people are feeling, not so much in what they're thinking. So, empathy then.

I came up with some notions for various elements' talent pools and then I forgot them like a fool.

People in this universe do not identify heavily with elements in the pervasive way we see in Quinn, but there is some notion of "what's your element" in a vaguely "what's your Hogwarts house" sort of way - some people set a lot of store by it, some people barely think about it.
