I was thinking it might make sense to assign the kill to me, because one of the two standard nighttime watcher-type classes (the type which checks a person's outputs rather than their inputs) is unable to check me without dying. Doesn't stop the risk if the second type checks the person I kill, but it still ~halves the risk that we'll be caught from that angle.

I guess it's a tradeoff between that and the risk of hitting someone who autokills someone trying to kill them (like you, I guess). I had been implicitly assuming that this second thing would be more likely, and therefore I should be sacrificing myself (or Shoal, I guess) because our deaths wouldn't mean any powers were lost.
Can you link to the "two standard nightime watcher-type classes"?

The Tracker has very few variants; however, there are many related Roles:
The Tracker learns who a player targeted, but not what action that player performed.
The Follower learns what action a player performed, but not who that player targeted.
The Watcher learns who targeted a player, but not what actions were performed on them.
The Voyeur learns what actions were performed on a player, but not who targeted them.
The Motion Detector learns if any actions were performed by or on a player, but not what they were, or who else was involved.
http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Jailkeeper is another one that can provide information (if they use it on the killer and noone dies, then either they protected the killer or the target of the death)
Lots of possible informative roles:

our mekath is something like this:

When I was talking about the two "standard" ones, I was referring to the Tracker and Watcher. I haven't ever actually seen a game use any of those other variants. I'd still be at risk from a Watcher, but a Tracker would die before they got to reveal anything they learned from me.
I suppose the question is whether it's more important to minimize the chances of something bad happening to us (in which case it's better that I go out) or minimize the damage when something inevitably goes wrong (in which case, yes, I agree that the person doing the killing is a bit more likely to be bitten than anyone else). I'm not quite sure what the optimal balance is between the two.

i think probably whoever of us was asking the most suspicious is the most likely to be watched/tracked/copped that night -- but i bet anyone still suspicious of alpha will be copping/watching/etc him, and some people who are trusting kappa will be doublechecking that kappa is safe for trusting, so it won't all fall on us.
in general, i think it is safest for whichever of us is being townread by the most people to do the killing. i'm not sure which of us that is, but i was the last of us to vote for aestrix before she claimed so i think there might be at least some suspicion on me.

but on the other hand, we can probably each make a case for why we were obviously guilty based on our behaviour today but that's because we've already narrows down the pool of potential killers to a pool of 5. the rest of the town is still floundering about and what's obvious to us won't be obvious to them. so need for panicking yet.

Okay, I am assigning tonight's kill to myself. Tulip, I will think about your arguments again on future nights, but I am being selfish tonight because:
-I'm going to be protected from lynching tomorrow, so even if I'm caught we can get Town to waste a day,
-I don't want to lose you yet, even if rationally I know the odds of that are very unlikely, and
-I didn't actually get to murder anyone last game (I guess I caused Sherlock to die, but that doesn't count :p).
It looks like the consensus is to kill DanielH first. I will PM an order to that effect before I go to sleep tonight unless anyone has strong objections/obviously better ideas.
Tamien and pistachi0n, don't forget to send your own PMs if you haven't already!
