"a hex for past-viewing, a hex for eidetic memory, and then a hex to recreate the body" will give you a past-viewing power, an eidetic memory (which iirc you could've done with a pentagon), and a basement-dweller. (You might be able to get the basement-dweller with a pentagon too? Not sure.) If you want a past-viewing power that lets you load a dead person's entire mind into your own mind, that might actually be multiple hexes and possibly even a star, and also is ludicrously privacy-invading. If you want to load a dead person's mind into something other than your own mind, like this basement-dweller you've got lying around, well... that's the question, isn't it?

I don't have a firm opinion on whether or not hexes can do forks. But for the reason why resurrection canonically requires an evil (or maybe a star? Someone might've done it with a star once?), recall that wishcoins are real bad at handling information, and minds are lots and lots of really complicated information that probably won't work very well if you fuck any of it up.

It took an evil to resurrect Shell Bell.

If it took a hex to fork, I’d imagine a star could fork this person at the moment of (or right before) their death.

Would there be a similar issue if I tried to copy all the non-human components of, e.g., São Paulo as of 2006 (at present time, so I'm trying to do that in 2016) and create them on the moon? I would have expected that to be … uh, a star, probably? Because of how large it is? But if the problem is wishcoins and information, I might be inclined to bump that up?

In the semireductionist glowfic multiverse, “wishcoins don’t work as well on minds” is a reasonable thing to happen.

For the purposes of wishcoins, minds are very complicated and finicky in ways that coin magic finds most difficult to handle. Pulling information from the past may also be more difficult than pulling it from the present, in a way that sometimes (but not necessarily always) bumps you up a level.

But also, this magic system was invented several years ago, piecemeal, according to the dictates of plot as things came up, and it is not necessarily going to be flawlessly consistent at all times. If I were tasked with building a wishcoin system from scratch today it would turn out very differently.

Obviously this new Bell in room of requirement is from a variant Arda where Eru made humans first, and they don’t age but elves do. The recognition is fake and somehow related to the other hallucinations.

Edit: oh, wait, they already know about spontaneous babies. Ignore the part about aging, then.
