So if you had an eidetic memory and wanted to spend the time you could read an encyclopedia and then burn it?

Yes.

So only knowledge is required, not full understanding, or is this a hypothetical encyclopedia and reader where the reader actually understands everything in the encyclopedia?

If you don't understand it it counts as "less interesting" but it's not nothing.

I’m just starting the Animorphs series. In response to the question of why they wanted humans, Visser Three said “Because […] they are so weak”. That sounds like the reason for conquering Barrayar, although he had a better answer for what they planned to do with humans afterwards than I ever heard for why Cetaganda wanted Barrayar.
This makes me think that the Cetaganda War–era Barrayarans could be interesting as Animorphs.

Elspeth shows up in Valinor between the extinguishing of the Trees and the swearing of the Oath, and explains to the Valar why they must act on incarnate time scales.
(inspired by
recent events in A mad god’s creation, where even if Calassúrë succeeds I expect Elspeth would do a better job)

The "Sparkles finds the Lost Key and goes to other worlds" thread template now has a neat little variant: post-losing-mates Sparkles is looking for them and goes to other worlds.

How about "Feanorians in the Pokemon world".
Or even "Pokemon!Bell (Ace, right?) ends up in Arda? Perhaps an Ace who has a legendary friend or two? I can't quite remember if she disapproved of people who caught Legendaries or not...
I wonder what sorts of things a Feanor could do with pokeball technology? Surely it involves folding space in some way, or pocket dimensions - either way, could have interesting results. Morgoth could probably do some frightening things with pokemon if he got his hands on them.

I don’t think we ever got an Ace who had met a Legendary?
But I agree the world does sound interesting to Silmaril or at least sandbox.

Nah, I don't think we did, either, I was just trying to figure out how to give the Bell more resources for godslaying. I doubt a legendary would be enough to deal with Morgoth (though maybe one of the greater ones, like the ones that control time and space, or the one responsible for creation... etc), but I bet the Feanor and Curufin could figure out some interesting things with access to their power. Wasn't one of the legendaries a wish pokemon, too? Really, there's all sorts of interesting powers that could be brought, even without legendaries.
