Fairies can learn regular languages analogously to learning codes and similar parameters apply.

*representing* various translation effects runs into the Authors Write In English problem.

The kobold's translation necklace isn't patchable per se, but it does have enough 'do what I mean' going on that someone familiar with the spell can optimize for different things when it's translating for them; it'd translate a pokemon-world native as saying 'evolve' probably, and then after that the kobold would say 'evolve' by default but could pretty trivially switch over to saying 'metamorphose' for the same concept if she had a reason to by thinking about it slightly differently. If she just ran into the phenomenon and hadn't heard anyone talk about it yet it'd translate to 'evolve' if she was talking to a pokemon native the first time she tried to talk about it but 'metamorphose' if she was talking to just about anyone else, because her primary intention is to be understood, not to be accurate.

Every time Olórin's hat gets mentioned, I become more convinced that it is labeled "WIZZARD".

I keep thinking of the potential solution of having orcs swear not to harm anybody and sending them back, and then realizing that even if they could make that oath Melkor would make them regret it.

Why did Loki destroy the body of the spy Maia? She was willing to give information and swear to having told the truth; that does not sound like it would have truly been tedious for ages.

What would really help the orcs is a gate to Promise.

Aether is sounding like she might be almost reassured to learn that her universe is fictional.
