I am curious why Mortal does not seem to be a vassal yet.

When I made the comment (I don’t know about now; I have not caught up on that thread since then), it appeared that Laura had been captured. She knows Sadde’s name, and (presumably?) the contingency plan. Whoever captured her should have been waiting at the gate for Sadder. Or did Sadde come up wit that plan and successfully keep it from her because they knew she wouldn’t approve?

Sadde was not known in fairyland, only Laura used to come, but they both developed and did not tell each other their own contingency plans in case the other disappeared into fairyland, and they had each their own gate whose whereabouts in fairyland the other did not know for exactly such an occasion.

In Halls of Stone, it is said that no line of questioning gives useful answers about Men’s histories. I can think of two that, if not useful, I would still be curious about: “Do you remember a time before the Sun and Moon existed?” and “What can you tell me about the seasons?”. What would the answers to those be?

"No" and "the weather is always the same, except some days it rains". The Men are in fact three weeks old with some developmentally necessary stuff inserted.

So if they do not have more than three weeks of fake memories or anything? If they had counting as one of the built-in things, they would have been able to answer Loki with a number? Or do I still not understand?

They don't have episodic memory past that point. I'm not sure that 'I have three weeks of episodic memory' is something most people could identify, let alone people newly introduced to numbers.

...Sauron is terrifying in the best possible way. Actually-intelligent villains in glowfic, especially ones who *stay* villains, have been really rare. (I guess Thorn probably counts? Maybe Nightmare Moon and Obadiah? But none of them stuck around for very long.) This should be fun!
