I'm probably not good enough at archaeology to figure this out myself, because Effulgence wasn't very public back then, but at what point was it decided that it would be a multi-universe thing? I'm particularly wondering if this was known when a particular comment was written, but I doubt memory is good enough to answer that precisely if a general answer wouldn't be good enough.
In either cace, I find this comment much funnier because there are other universes in Effulgence, at least one containing no dust and several containing no 70s rock bands (though I don't know of any overlap between the two sets).
There should be an Effulgence thread

I'm pretty sure that was pre-multiverse. Libby meeting Elspeth was the point from which the multiversal aspect snowballed.
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
Kappa, do you try to make threads end on pleasing integers or am I experiencing noticing bias? What integers do you find pleasing, if any?

Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
I do not do anything to try to make comment threads particular lengths, except for when there used to be a display error on threads over 500 comments and I would try to avoid going over 500.
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
I’ve actually experienced the opposite bias, finding threads that take up integral numbers of pages seemingly less than one-twenty-fifth the time.

Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
I definitely don't do anything related to number of pages, because I use threaded view and the fullwidth userstyle and never venture into pagination if I can help it.
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
I dislike pagination, but I dislike the comments sliding off to the righr more and userstyles don't work on my tablet. I suppose I could figure out more about getting Dreamwidth to use my CSS, since I am logged in on the tablet.
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
i notice pleasing numbers even in places such as where threads stop for the night, or stop for a while, not just in where they stop for good. For example exploratory kidnapping is paused at 888 right now, unaccountable popularity is at 254 which is close enough to 256 to be pleasing by association, to paris with love is at 400 but that's not you...
and those are just the ones from the last few days. being divisible by 25 doesn't make a number pleasing (except for pagination purposes), but being divisible by 50 or 100 does. and perfect squares are pleasing and so are perfect cubes and palindromes and a few other things, such as x^x*(x+1)^(x+1) which doesn't come up very often but is exceedingly pleasing. it probably is noticing bias because you don't have my favourite numbers memorised. i was just curious in case we happened to have a large overlap in favourite numbers that would explain it.

and your pyjama party thread was at 5^2 :) Anyway, it's good to have lots of favourite numbers because then there's lots of happy coincidences all over the place. :DMarri wrote:This was totally on purpose!*Shoal wrote:...to paris with love is at 400...
