If I recall right (don't feel like checking right now) Juliet tried to just add the memories and her shield wouldn't let her, but the crystal ball said the fork and merge would work fine, so she did that (after the pair's detour). Juliet's shield in particular is not so much about voluntary contact (she nopes Sue) as it is about unambiguous good. She'll nope anything that might harm her even if the use case is definitely positive or if the net effect of access would be probably positive, but it doesn't categorize a merge as a harm (the category "merge" is different from the category "wished added memories" here).

Now that you mention it, the “unequivocal good” concept does sound familiar. I also don't feel like looking up the details of the reasons behind forking and merging, so I'll defer to your authorial memory instead of my more recent but nonauthorial (and thus probably less attentive) one.

I should write up the list of various Bell opacities sometime... back in January I emailed kappa a list, I could update and organize...

Is the category "merge" an unambiguous good? In the Shell Bell incident they had to work to hammer out a version they/she were happy with. Coming up with a harmful case of the category sounds easy.

Shell and Bell had more differences than the Juliet forks did. I don't consider "merge with somebody" a single category here.

I would guess, no, but you could try asking for a copy of the novel that an alt of you did publish?

Bluelantern is correct.

Just to be sure, the current sandbox announced as Juliet and Mark (oddest resenmblance) actually is Juliet (pre-pealing) and Mark, not some othe Slayer!Bella and Mark? I was interpreting that as imprecision in the announcement, but now it looks like we instead get to actually see a JokerSherlock meet somebody who knows one of their component templates.

EDIT: Yep. It was actually a version of Juliet, not just a Slayer!Bella. Too bad Sherlock is nowhere near Sunnydale High, and can’t get there if he is, while Mark is unlikely to go to Sunnydale with Juliet.

This is a variant Juliet who started dating Minus without any previous contact with Milliways, but yes, it's a Juliet Juliet.
